My gerl is in 1 Curie. I'm staying in Fernvale and signed up for one way transport from school back to home. Just called the transport company to confirm the details.. my dear gerl will be the last to be dropped off.. around 2.45pm 😞

Hi , may I know y u decide to send ur kid to palm view? I also stay fernvale and am in a dilemma about which school to send my kid

      Hi Blissedsher,

I'm one of those parents who are not so concerned with academics. I want my kids to continue to play hard in school and have fun. To me, when they have fun in school, they will enjoy learning.. and when they enjoy learning, the results will come naturally.

So I was very determined to send my kids to Hougang Primary where I feel they have good CCA programmes. But due to some other commitment, I missed the PV registration.. hence missed my chance. Next option would be to send to my former school.. shall not name it.. but it has good academic track records.. but not so interesting CCAs. So decided to give it a miss.

Long story short, I then read the news about the 3 new schools opening in Sengkang area. And I immediately thought this would be a good chance! Being new, the school will have fresh ideas, and parents will have more involvement in the school development.. playing a part is steering the school's direction. I went to the roadshow.. listened to all the sales pitch from the 3 principals.. and Palm View sold me with his vision for the school. He shared my vision of education.. where academic result is secondary.. there are other things more impt than that. And up till now, I have to say that he has been consistent in communicating this vision.

Well.. story getting too long. PM me if you wanna know more things. Don wan the rest to get bored reading this.. hahahahhahaha.
Hi I pmed u. Btw so which of the 3 new pri school has focus on academic results ?

I think… at the end of the day… you have a certain expectation when you choose a particular school. Some parents choose because of distance to home. Some parents choose Palm View because they like the challenge of being in a new school and new system. Some choose because they do not want their kids to be overwhelmed by the presence of other bigger kids. For me, I chose Palm View coz (1) I like the fact that it is new… meaning parents have a chance to co-create the school with the staff, etc, (2) I share the same view with the Principal on how we see/perceive education and (3) I like their school uniform.

Yes the last reason may sound ridiculous… but bottom line is… choose a school that suits your expectations (be it academic, distance, non-academic emphasis, etc) and come up with back-up plans and support system to ensure your has the necc support to see him/her thru’ primary school.
interested in your thoughts, but perhaps could you help to elaborate on making kids interested in learning with play? especially those subjects that tend to be more \"academic\" e.g. maths? Personally, i find it is not impossible but just a bit more challenging for teachers and parents to make study \"fun\". I am just thinking, would be backfiring effort if too much emphasis in making study \"fun\"? would students feel that if the subjects/study not \"fun\", they lost their motivation to study?

Personally, i felt a bit tough to make everything fun for kids (though i am not that stage yet, but trying to teach my child his a-b-c, 1-2-3). They may buy in or not buy in the \"fun\" idea as it does not interested them. With the changing of syllabus of reading widely, it is a bit uphill tasks to do so to engage children to learn....:D

What is fun to us may not be fun to the kids. I tink part of it is to understand what your child is interested in.. and try to incorporate these into their everyday learning.

Honestly.. I do not know how to teach my child ABCs and 123s in a fun way...... simply because I do not teach them these at home. I leave these teachings to teachers.. which is why I put in all the effort to try and find schools (both preschool and now primary school) which share the same vision as me. I trust the school system fully with these. At home, I teach my kids things which they do not learn in school.. like swinging monkey bars.. climbing trees, rolling down a slope at the open field behind my block.. splashing on a puddle of water in the rain.. etc.

Good luck in your school hunt. It's a fun yet tiring process. 🙂

Need some feed back from parents whose child is taking the school bus. How do u find the fees?

I am charged $160 for taking 2 ways for a 11-15 seater. I am staying at the Rivervale area(within 1 km) from the school and the school bus heads for the student care near Hougang Mall after school. Personally I find the fees to be ridiculously high compared to the market rate of around $90-100. Can parents share your view? For a more meaningful comparison, pse state the followings:

              a. boarding and alighting point
              b. number of seaters
              c. 1 or 2 way.

              Appreciate any comment. Thanks.

I tink that is quite the standard rate for a mini bus. The big 45-seater bus will be significantly cheaper… but that will also mean your child will go on a merry-go-round before reaching home.

Is it just me or or did the school mention somewhere during the roadshow or orientation that P1 has no homework?

                      Can anyone recall?

My gerl was told she needs to bring a file to school to put her homework… hmmmmm.
