Travel: Malaysia - Genting
-
We are going to Genting on X'mas day. Managed to get the rooms at the last minute though at normal rates iso 888 offer. We will be doing 2 nites (contemplating if we should spend 1 day in KL instead but come to think of it, shopping in KL is not that great after all). Also.... thinking of the crime rates
This time round, it will just be hubby and me. Yes... we are leaving the kids behind. We just did a family holiday 2 weeks back so now mummy and daddy need a good break without the kids before the school re-opens and we have to slog hard again with them.
BTW, we just brought the kids + maid to genting in June this year. Yes... it's gonna be crowded. But I think the weather is going to be nice. We can spend some relax time at the bowling alley or casino (usually we can only do it when the kids are sleeping. Though the room will be small but bet we won't spend much time there and I think the room is pretty decent so far. For a relative reasonable short getaway, Genting still has good offerings.
On the part on haunted.... my mum's friend encountered it recently.... Well.. just pray that you get a good room and bring all the ncessary tools. -

I hope that next year once the two IRs in Singapore open, situation may improve since more options available. However, still the weather in Singapore cannot be compared to Genting/Cameron Highlands...sigh.[/quote]Yes... the weather is never comparable. Also, you are playing in MYR there while over here is SGD so psychologically, it's cheaper to play the games?
Also, there are restrictions for sporeans to go to IR. Eg. S$100 entrance fees??? I am a firm believer of Genting Singapore shares so I am hoping that they make it big too

Enjoy your couple holiday, MMM!
Genting is nice without the kids
too definitely. And yes i am sure
the weather will be nice this time..
Our room in Theme Park was great.
Big spacious and quite near to MarryBrown
and Coffee Bean for that sudden urge for
snacks... and yet far from the busy-ness
of the main 1st World. And close enough
to the theme park.
Ya, no need to go KL. Just chill up at
the top of the mountains together.

Hi, Just wanted to share our recent Genting trip...
We drove to Genting last Dec 29-31 and stayed at First World Hotel. We purposely booked the World Club Room (online booking back in Oct) because of its spaciousness since it will be hubby, me, our 5 yr old DS, 22 months DD and maid. Previously, I had already heard that First World was a so-so hotel, rooms are sometimes dirty and smelly, very crowded, queue to check-in took 3 hours and just pure chaos. We were pleasantly surprised that our room was indeed very spacious, clean and no smelly odor. Check in was no more than 5 minutes as there was special check-in counter for World Club Room Guests. We had complementary breakfast buffet for 2 adults and kids 5 and below ate free. We just paid extra for the other adult. There was an assortment of food like made-to order omelet or any style you want, cereals, rice, chicken curry, bee-hoon, bread, plain porridge w/ assortment of toppings to choose from, etc. It was actually quite filling. The hotel itself was crowded and we saw that the queue for the regular room check-in was really long. After seeing that, we were so glad we booked the World Club Room!! :rahrah:
We went to the outdoor theme park around 10 am the following morning. We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that crowded yet so we were able to ride the rides without queuing for a long time. The theme park itself was not crowded yet either. It was so convenient to go back to the hotel for an afternoon nap bec. the hotel was only a short walking distance. We came back around 5 pm and the park was crowded already, mostly teens. Queue was bearable. The rides were ok, it's a far cry from Disneyland rides, but we still enjoyed them for what they are. We think that the outdoor theme park needs some rehabilitation; it just looks like it's not well-maintained. The indoor theme park, on the other hand, looked much better and well-taken cared off.
To keep the sanity in the car, we brought lots of snacks for everyone and when my DD was getting antsy in her car seat, we just played some dvd for the kids to watch. We also made occasional pit-stops to use the loo or just to stretch. We really enjoyed the cold weather! Nights got really cold in the room even if the windows were closed. Downside is, the hotel could not provide extra blankets for us. Only on the second night did we get 1 blanket. I think they should seriously invest on more blankets esp in December!
Overall, our first Genting trip was a success! We all had fun, even when it got crazy sometimes in the car with my DD wanting to get out of her car seat.
We will most likely stay in First World Hotel only if the World Club Room is available again. Otherwise, we'd like to check out the other resorts. Oh, and we're soooo glad we did not encounter any ghosts, too!
Thanks for letting me ramble...

MomsyBoo,
We had breakfast the first morning we were at Genting, and we thought the breakfast was horrible. True that there was a so-called variety, but the bee hoon was sour - my mother and I thought they must have used some expired bee hoon. And the variety was actually normal food we wouldn’t even eat at home.
The sea of people at the cafe was a put-off too. I felt like it was close to a refugee camp.
We didn’t take their breakfast the next day. -

Can't decide whether to book Theme Park Hotel or First word Hotel-world club room for a family of 2 adults + 3 kids. Any quick advice cos' planning to book it by tomorrow??? :?
buds:
Theme Park Hotel was exceptionally spacious
and clean. Windows when opened oversaw
some of the rides. Very cool and breezy.
Coffee Bean cafe just outside hotel reception
area. And the theme park close by. -

Our family prefer Theme Park Hotel in terms of the rooms and breakfast is much more comfortable. Can't decide whether to book Theme Park Hotel or First word Hotel-world club room for a family of 2 adults + 3 kids. Any quick advice cos' planning to book it by tomorrow??? :?
I wonder do u still join the same \"long\" Q upon check-in and same cafe for breakfast if u bk First word Hotel-world club room. That put us off especially during breakfast, it is like going for war. -
no, the club rooms have their own separate queue as well as breakfast. So it's not as bad
