Hi! I’m currently a j2 in acjc. I was not from an affiliated school but fitted in well. However it’s advisable to have a friend from the same sec school gg together as in the beginning everyone kind of stays with their school ppl. But after awhile everyone knows everyone and all is well. Culture in ac: WE ARE NOT SNOBBISH RICH KIDS WHO SAIL THROUGH LIFE. Many come from middle income families and I have friends staying in HDBs. Of course there are also the obscenely rich ones but no one flaunts their wealth around sch. We are a family in ac with passionate teachers who know how to have a little fun (encourages us to stand on chairs during special assemblies ie. national day song singing etc). Unfortunately it is true that most speak English in ac. Rarely does one hear chinese being spoken. We don’t play play all the time. We are closet muggers and many do stay in school till evening when exams are near. Science faculty: physics dept sucks. Honestly. Bio dept is good. Head of bio is a strict no nonsense lady who makes us answer bio questions at the door of the lecture hall if we’re late for 5 or more mins. Overall ac is a great place to be with a perfect mixture of play and study! Come to ac!

I think it’s highly unlikely for u to enter acjc with 8 points as the 6 7 in the jc cut off point is a partial L1R5. Thus some ppl who score 7 might not even be able to enter ac if ppl who do better choose ac. These are the ppl who will appeal I guess. I’m from ac and my principal shared with us that last yr 500+ ppl appealed for like a handful of empty spaces. So unless u have something ac wants, maybe u should try acjc or nyjc. Heard nyjc is not bad…

My daughter has been already intereseted in ACJC due to peer group feedback and preferences. It is us parents who are more academically inclined and want more for the kids.

I am impressed with the feedback provided by you all. It seems ACJC has got more bad name than it really deserve and plus points are getting buried.

It was good to note from one of you that thought you choose TJC due to East location you still regard ACJC as a nice pick with score of 6.

Thanks. We will finalize ACJC as first choice since distance is anyway a big factor.

Since ACJC should be partial 6 it is not a sure shot for her as we are PR and may get to balloting in case of tie amongst 6 pointers. I am keeping TJC as backup followed by AJC.

          Thanks,

My dd obtained a net score of 10 pts at ‘O’ level. She wishes to try applying for MJC or NYJC. Should she put MJC or NYJC as 1st choice to get a better chance of getting into the jc? What is yr view of Tampines jc?

                Hello 🙂

I recently received my O'level results:
                Raw L1R5 - 10
                Nett L1R5 - 6

                English A2
                Combined humanities B4
                Math A1
                Amath A1
                Chemistry A1
                Biology A1
                Physics A2
                Higher Chinese A2

Currently I'm in a major dilemma as to whether I should put TJC or MJC as my first choice 😢 MJC seems more fun and exciting than TJC judging from their open house and the CCAs at MJC are more interesting. But many people are telling me to go to TJC because of their reputation..

                What should I choose? 🤷

                  btw, where do you live?
Hi, thanks for sharing :). I'll probably be entering NJC! I live in Serangoon area, it's not very near njc but neither is it near VJC (which was my other consideration). Look forward to starting school there 😂

jessting, I think you should just place RJC as first choice & hope for the best when you appeal, over HC based on distance alone - I think both schools are more or less equally matched academic wise. As for your other choices/ safety net, I think you could consider VJC, TJC, NJC, ACJC, etc etc, or ACSIB. Should be able to get into most without any problems. All the best! 😄

Good luck to your RJC choice. Do not feel sad if you have to come to our school (NJC), there are nice teachers and students there.

Hi all! Am new here. Submitted my choices for JCs yesterday, but I would like to know how likely it would be that I will get into my first choice.

                      My results for O levels:
                      English A2
                      HCL B3
                      SS/Hist Elect: A2
                      Geography: A1
                      EMaths: A1
                      AMaths: A1
                      Chemistry: A1
                      Physics: A2
                      CCA: A1
                      L1R5=7, Net=3
I have put Hwa Chong as my first choice as I really like the environment there. Oh, and if I'm not able to get in, is it possible to appeal through my CCA Chinese Orchestra? We've gotten Gold with Honours for the last SYF. Thanks so much. 😄

Both JCs are good, although TJC has a much longer history than MJC. But personally, I would choose TJC.

If you are seriously undecided, choose the JC that is nearer to your house.

Congratulations on your excellent O levels science results!
