I must be the odd one out. I don't worry about exam techniques and am against teaching tailored for exams. At this age, I want a bigger approach and picture. I feel that they will eventually pick up the exam smarts later.

I'm sure you are not the odd one. šŸ˜„

no exam techniques JUST check and double check and triple check the work!!

I have figured even if I showcase all the techniques and with careless mistakes, there will be a huge loss in marks. :faint:
I have come to expect and accept careless mistakes. My elder one still makes them. So I won't beat myself up over them.

I will ask kids to check but not sure if they do. Kids who do better at exams than their peers (at this age) usually are the more mature, stable and careful ones.

I haven't accepted careless mistakes and probably never will

Not being able to do a problem because of knowledge or comprehension is something I can accept and won't go into \"Oh No\" mode if she will do badly all the time.

but knowing and not bothering to check and losing marks is a bad habit in my books.

when young, being careless is just marks, when they grow older and work, making careless mistakes can amount to a black mark, loss of job , low performance review. I could be reading into it too early but being conscientious and learning to be meticulous is a life skill I would like them to have.
