It is good MOE's priority in the years ahead will be to teach students about values and character so as to better prepare them for the 21st century. Hopefully this would change some schools' culture. Although calling a school \"creating competitive atas girls lacking finesse in social grace\" is a sweeping statement, the gereralisation would not be born without an iota of truth.

I would think that they would not make it a bed of of roses for suspects during interrogation. However, to say that CPIB forcing them to write false statements is questioning CPIB's integrity and ethicality. You have any concrete example to back up your claim?

watch Hong Kong CID show, can see how those interrogators’ attitude towards the person. In the show also can see some interrogators kicked, scolded and asked the person to confess. Due to pressure, usually people just gave in. I thought those are HK CID show acting only. After following Ng’s case, no wonder why CS gave different version in the court.

How much can schools teach?

We parents especially the mums are the ones who have to teach our children values and self respect to our kids, both girls and boys. Girls have to understand what is loving and respecting own body. Boys gotta respect women. If kids are not well behaved in public…I am referring to young ones, the mother gets the blame, not the father…proverb has it that when a child is born, that ill-mannered child doesn’t have a mother who teaches.

Good grades are not everything. If that person has superb grades but lacking character, integrity or moral values, what is the point?

I don't think anything taught (or not taught) in school will change a student's values learned at home. So if students are not showing the right values and character now, parents should take a good look at what their kids are learning at home.

I don't think anything taught (or not taught) in school will change a student's values learned at home. So if students are not showing the right values and character now, parents should take a good look at what their kids are learning at home.

You can only do that much at home and also only in the 1st 12 years of a kid's life when they are mouldable. Beyond that, the social media, friends, environmental influence takes over. School can preach, sometime, the authorities also don't do what they preach, the kids find it phoney and get confused.

That is so true...hopefully those 12 years of teaching values will stay with the child...along the way, parents have to guide and explain that sometimes what they see authorities say and do is not equivalent.
A principal may tell the students to pick up litter and throw into the bin...but she doesn't do so, kids will know it's bullshit. It's lead by example.

Values are taught at home.
We have seen kids being polite and not mouthing bad words amid an ah Beng school environment.
Vice versa -so called branded primary schools and secondary schools where most come from good families, there are some kids mouthing vulgarity etc.
Difference is what their families taught them from young...
