-
How come rally schedule not out yet har? :? What's holding them?
Fri 18, Sat 19 and Thu 24 should be the hottest dates, and there are only 2 locations for 4 parties. The locations are pretty close to each other, just across one short highway... -
Wah, this just came out..
PAP to hold rally for by-election on Friday
(source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/specialreport/news/1248542_189/1/.html)
SINGAPORE: The People's Action Party (PAP) will hold a rally on Friday for the Punggol East by-election.
Police have issued the permit for the rally which will be held from 7pm to 10pm at the open field in front of Blk 183C, Rivervale Crescent.
Police added that Rivervale Crescent, between the Arulmigu Velmurugan Gnanamuneeswara Temple and Block 182, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4pm to midnight Friday, and that parking restrictions along the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced.
Vehicles found parking and causing obstruction will be towed away, said the police.
Those attending the rally should take public transport to minimise traffic congestion, the police said, adding that motorists should tune in to the radio for updates on the latest traffic situation.
The by-election on 26 January will be a four-cornered fight among PAP's Koh Poh Koon, Workers' Party Lee Li Lian, Reform Party's Kenneth Jeyaretnam and Singapore Democratic Alliance's Desmond Lim.

Next GE will be in 2.5 years time. That mean it will be a short term for the newly elected MP. Some people might choose to give the opposition party a chance by voting him or her in. Anyway, they can still vote the opposition party out in 2.5 years time if his or her performance is not up to expectation.concern2:
:rotflmao: That works out to be about half of what he got last time? About there?
These were d results in GE2011:
PUNGGOL EAST SMC
PAP - 16,969 (54.53%)
WP - 12,765
SDA - 1,386
Spoilt - 551
Total votes cast - 31,671 -

Just wonder why he still want to go into politics? Already so busy & so rich.Mdm Koh:
I think the good doctor may have over-committed himself. He already has so much on his plate... It's a wonder if he has any time left to run the TC.
Perhaps he has an army of runners?
Then he only needs to show face once a week at meet people session & show face at festive seasons dinner events. Manageable wa  -

@Strparent, If you have a strong candidate which you think is the best, put him up. That's the one and only thing you should do. By fielding him, you are being fair to him, to the voters of Punggol East and to SDP.
Just saw this..... wonder if there is some truth in it.MR06:

I agree with 2WG. I have the same opinion that SDP has ONE very promising candidate who is better than whats remaining available at WP ( no offence to LLL - I luv ah lian :imanangel: ), so the concept was good, though the approach and method just does not click, due to different parties' visions.
By pulling out to avoid/reduce multi-party fight, they did the most logical step. They can seriously think of a remote victory ONLY if WP agrees and does not field a separate candidate.
Once WP insist on their own candidate, they had no chance and also does not want to be labelled another TJS.
The article , imho, is very much biased to lend discredit to the SDP.
as for the ikan bilis, hope that they come to their senses and do the honourable thing and NOT submit their planned nominations, though unlikely they will do so.
DL may feel he need to show he is always there and will always be there. As for KJ, I have no idea what the heck he think he is doing. The overly eagerness to get into Parliament is hazing the obvious and clouting his judgement. There is a 95% chance he will lose his deposit if he run in a multi-party BE, let alone any remote chance of actually winning :slapshead: :slapshead:

Fyi, I'm no critic or supporter of SDP but definitely a by-stander and observer like most Singaporean in this BE.
In contrary, he created tension with WP by making public the email comms. He created controversy by offering that \"joint campaigning\" proposal to WP which he subsequently admitted that he knew WP would not accept. If he really has opposition unity in mind, he would have learnt from NSP, announced that they will not contest right from the start, not after all these PR disasters. If he really has opposition unity in mind, he would not publish those comms to put WP in a bad light. In gist, you don't create dis-unity among the opposition in trying to achieve unity. It just doesn't make sense.
@MR06, not sure if that is true and I won't be surprise if it is. CSJ does not seem to be in sync with the rest of the SDP as far as this BE prep is concern. Remember when he told the whole world about his \"SDP MP but WP TC\" idea, who else is with him? His lone figure suggested that he is either making that call on his own without notifying his CEC, or he is receiving no support. Subsequently, when WP announced their candidate, Dr Ang, who distant himself from being considered as a candidate, commented that it is a \"brilliant\" move by WP for naming LLL.
Haiz.... all I can say is SDP will not see the light at the end of the tunnel until they find their own LTK. -
Dr. Koh Boon Poh is a good candidate. If he wins the by-election in Punggol East, he will be able to serve the residents well.
However, my preference is for Ms Lee Li Lian, for the following reasons:
a) She is likely to work as a full time MP to serve the residents
b) She has been working the ground in the Workers Party for several years (compared to the recent induction of Dr Koh into the PAP)
c) We need more people from the non-elite to represent the people in Parliament.
My best wishes to Ms Lee.
http://www.facebook.com/kinlian/posts/426837694055555 -
