      Hi,

I have just sent my maid back and will be without one for this year. I am struggling to cope especially when it comes to preparing food and doing housework. I have just started work as well.

After work, I rush back, hardly have time to do all that then need to guide kids with their work. How do you all cope?

          Hi all,

Officially join this thread, my maid went back last sat. I think I still missed my maid, every morning I have to wake up 1hr early to get prepare and every night is housework to 10.30pm, sometime 11pm. I find it is so tiring, I don't cook for dinner, if I cook, I really think I can only sleep at 3am. 😢
How do you ladies manage your time?
Yes, I am feeling the strain of doing everything on my own after my maid left. I find the cooking part difficult too. Perhaps, I don't really like to cook. Thinking of tingkat, but not sure if this is a good idea. I live near a coffee shop, so buying food is not a problem. The problem is that my family prefer homecooked food.

Maybe a thermal cooker might help. Heard a lot good things about them. Mummies out there, any good brand to recommend?

I boil the soup in slow cooker in the morning, rice and steam the fish together when I am back from work, this will be the dinner for my kids. My no cooking mean I steam the meat or fish and 1 veg soup from dh and me. Totally oil free. But too bland for dh. 😞 but cooking and washing up really scared me off.

I don't want to spend evry night doing housework and have no time with my family.
Sweet joy, I have a small litre Endo thermal cooker, work fine for me.

It's a headache thinking what to cook everyday.

When we had a maid back then, she will cook and wash up. Then washing/hanging up wet laundry on bamboo when washing machine beeps, keeping dry clothes and folding them...hubby and I could spend that quality time coaching kids as these non-value added work takes up time.
That was indeed the biggest reason why we missed having a maid.

It's frustrating to have to coach daughter after starting the washing machine and then rushing to hang up clothes in the midst...my morning sun is very strong and that is why I have to wash at night. So with tingkat now, I have one less headache...mornings, I plan what to cook for lunch...usually a soup with meat and vege. Honestly I am still trying to think of a solution not to run off to hang clothes half way while teaching her...disruptive and frustrating to lose momentum.

It takes a bit of adjusting when your maid first leave. Then you will struggle a bit for a little while and then you will know how and when to go about doing what so that you can cut down the time spent on housework.

You can cook a couple of stewed dishes ahead of time and freeze and reheat, or buy back on alternate days. And steamed doesn't mean it has to be oil-free and bland. It's better to have food that is relatively tasty at home to prevent family members from demanding to eat out, and unless someone has serious health issues, there's no harm in having some oil. My mum tried to cook very healthily with minimal oil and salt, and in the end, my father and brother decided that they would always eat out or buy back instead! And ask your husband to help with washing up.

Think cannot be lazy with cooking.. yesterday managed to finish the work earlier 🙂

Yes I am FTWM. I am thinking of getting dish washer.. Can we use dish washer for milk bottles and water bottles?

milk bottles should not be a problem if it can be sterilised. Water bottles will depends. Those with colorful printing, u may find the color fading after a few washes.

I prepared a list of simple dishes…like in restaurant, header ‘chicken’, ‘vegetables’, ‘pork’…simplest dishes with minimal washing up.

Steam, stir-fry, soup, or maybe broiler. That’s about it.

As for my dried laundry, hubby helps to keep and fold at night.

I use better quality sauces…like what simkhoo mentioned, steam food need not be bland. My kids love creamy potatoes, so I get russet or Yukon ones.
