My son started at about 4 at a school in thomson road but I don’t think they have drum classes anymore. He followed the teacher to School of Music Clef at Suntec. For the first 2.5 years, I didn’t get him a drumset. He would practice on pillows and a practice pad. Only when I was sure he was serious about drums did we get him a set.

You might want to put your child in a concert band under percussion. Saw some impressive drummers there.

Which concert band takes in? I'm interested to put him there.

Does his primary school has a concert band? If so, that is a good place to start with as it will provide him with the percussion exposure.

Son (age 9) is learning drum at About Music http://www.aboutmusic.com.sg. He enjoys the lesson and can jam with others.

Remember to wear ear plugs and protect their ears…heard from friends how kids are getting hearing loss because they use earphones and exposed to loud music…

Hi, can I ask if it is quite easy to pass grade 1 for drums?

And when do the kids start to learn abt theory or theory is not tested at all ?
                    Thanks!

My son is taking his drum exams with Rockschool. The first exam that can be taken is \"Debut\", followed by Grade 1 - 8. My son started with Grade 1 at K2 and had no problems passing. There is a little bit of theory (reading scores, understanding your drumset etc) together with the practical, but not difficult. The syllabus for the rockschool drum exams can be downloaded here:

Thank you v much, wow the syllabus looks much tougher than the trinity drums grade 1 which my boy’s teacher is telling us about…er…maybe I should go & double check with him…
