Wow! You son must have done very well in his PSLE. Congratulations! I bet he'll be able to blend in well with all his new classmates.

Btw, what is PAL activity? I can see that in my boy's timetable but they have not started the subject.
Was teaching my boy last night with his first ever Chinese Spelling (though its Hanyu Pinyin). We were like \"singing songs\" with all the 4 different \"tones\". My elder gal has to step in a few times to correct us with our \"tone\".

Maozai found this in GESP website on PAL. Hence so primary one student need to go to school by 11am tuesday.
PAL which stands for Programme for Active Learning is one of the recommendations of the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) Committee. It is an initiative to address the greater emphasis on non-academic programmes within the curriculum.
The intended outcomes of PAL@GESPS are as follows:
- Exhibit confidence and enjoy individual and group experiences;
- Generate ideas and express themselves creatively; and
- Explore and extend knowledge and skills in their daily lives.
PAL consists of modules of activities in two broad areas, Sports and Outdoor Education, Performing Arts (Music and Dance) and Visual Arts, which are carried out within the curriculum. The greater exposure to Sports and Outdoor Education, Performing and Visual Arts for all Primary 1 and 2 pupils will facilitate their well-rounded development and help in balancing knowledge with skills and values.
At GESPS, we are proud to be selected as one of the PAL Phase 2 Pilot schools. We have planned an interesting PAL programme for our Primary 1 and 2 pupils. The Primary 1 pupils will be doing Visual Arts and Sports and Games modules while the Primary 2 pupils will be doing Performing Arts and Outdoor Education modules. The programmes are designed to be experiential, fun and enjoyable and they encompass learning in a creative way. At the same time values education and social and emotional learning will be incorporated in these modules to nurture our pupils holistically.
Each level (Pr 1 or Pr 2) will go through a 2-hour programme weekly during curriculum hours. The PAL programme for Primary 1 will take place on Tuesdays, and for Primary 2 on Thursdays. On these days, school will start at 11am on Tuesdays for our Primary 1 and on Thursdays for our Primary 2. This is to ensure that pupils enjoy both the PAL programme and at the same time dedicated academic lessons in class. -
Hey zhanshen, thanx so much for the detailed write up....
Actually intended to search for it on the Internet to post for mozai but u Beat me to it
Pity My son didn't have the privilege of being a part of this programme as it was not introduced during his p1 & 2 yrs. I m sure your little ones will have fun doing it.
In case u r worried about the longer school hrs on PAL day, you may like to knw that there is actually a lunch break scheduled for them prior to starting school proper.
Cheers! -
Thanks Zanshen for posting the info! I just received the letter on PAL today from school. Seem like a fun programme!

Hi ksks3mum, yes GESP has higher Chinese. However i am not sure when it will start. PAL will start this week and hopefully our child will enjoy it. : ) BTW did you allow your child to participate in Tae Kwan Do?
Hi Double E, GESP is on double session currently. According to my child form teacher, in 2 years time, once the new building ready, the school will be converting to single sessions. -

No did not take part in TKD, cos 7:30pm. I first thought start morning 7:30am then i try and let him do it. After he can hang around till 11am for PAL.
I thought school might change to single session in year 2014 as during orientation Principle mentioned reno year 2013. But later heard upgrade from 2013 to 2014. I guess not so soon maybe year 2015.
