SDA Punggol East By-Elections Online Rally

      His campaign is turning farcical.
If he cannot articulate his points in a close setting of his choosing, how can he deliver in parliament under more trying conditions?
Ah Singh can possibly be a promising infomercial salesman.

:faint: Sorry, Mr Lim, I couldn't bear to continue after the first few seconds.. That said, I respect you as a person for your willingness and determination to take part despite all odds. :salute:

This is also an option that other candidates could consider doing in the future - with improvements, and would be an advantage to candidates who are photogenic (appears better on camera than in real πŸ˜† ) Some more, this kind can edit and re-take if not done well the first time. BTW, are there any rules on this yet?

\"More research on improving the success rate and lowering the cost of assisted reproduction...\"

So WP is now a biomed incubator? Dun make me laugh...

        Talk is cheap.

Anyway, you have just proven the point, it took 3 pages of posts and 5 hours for someone to dig up anything of substance.

The opposition or the supporters, which to be feared? You tell me.

It is interesting that of the few things I reproduced, you zoomed in on the one most general item, and overlooked the specific proposals that now appear in one form or another in Baby Bonus 2013. These proposals were published waaaaaay back in 2011 by WP before the GE. But, I suppose that's how some segment of the electorate will react.

The PAP manifesto is even thinner on specifics. Specifics on implementation are drawn up by civil servants. I don't elect somebody to be a civil servant. I leave that to the civil service. I elect somebody for vision and concepts. Lately, the PAP is getting a bit thin in this department. Not for nothing is the lament that the PAP does not appear to have another Goh Keng Swee.

Recent measures by the PAP government appear to me to be firefighting measures. Does it even have a vision anymore?

Even the idea to give HDB priority to families with children has to come from online forums. I know, because I was the first one to plant that seed at Yahoo! before anybody else mentioned it.

It used to be that given a choice between a PAP and an opposition candidate, the choice was a no brainer because the PAP candidate is far superior. Now? In some cases, there is nothing between the two. In a few other cases, the non-PAP candidate is actually stronger. In fact, some of the candidates (who shall remain nameless) they have put forth in the last GE leaves one with the impression that they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. The SAF, NTUC, civil service, doctors, and relatives of the above. Is the PAP recruitment circle becoming so small? Something is seriously wrong somewhere.

Even PAP stalwarts have gotten fed up enough to come forward. One even ran against their preferred presidential candidate.

I am not firmly in the opposition camp. Heck, I voted PAP the last time. If this continues, I may not do so come next GE. And my constituency has an NCMP...

Some call it entrenched position. Others suggest tunnel vision and yet some said \"ranker\" and anti-opposition. You decide or perhaps have new ones?

You know what - if any Ah Peh can produce that Manifesto then we don't need education in Singapore. Or is it there's only one educated forumer?

3Boys, :spank: you think we are all campaigning for WP ah? We bother to share here \"tao chio \" liao. Most people just think it is a waste of time, \"tan luii\" is more important - and I bet you will say that is the right thing to do.

For those who say WP don't voice up about certain issues, do they actually follow what goes on in parliament? Most probably not. They see what is in the paper, papers never mention leh..

I was going to re-log in to my computer last night to bring up the manifestos but had to attend to the kids for school today. Anyway, I am glad someone else did. For many who question, who actually bother to read the manifestos? That's why I said before, and I say it now - it always starts with whether one is willing to give oppositions a thought. If not, nothing that is said will go in. I don't question so much of opposition supporters - at least at this point in time - because many had been PAP supporters in the past too, meaning they have been on the other side before.

There are PAP supporters who still think it is the PAP who is spending money to build our bridges and mending the entire country. :slapshead: Don't question me on this - I got it first hand from an aunty who has this mentality. And when I told her it is tax payers-the people who are paying for all these, her eye opened wide wide :scared: like it never occurred to her before :faint: So, 3Boys, all PAP supporters all very smart and well-informed hor

So the policies that WP are proposing do not require taxpayers money? If they come to power they will spend WP money and not taxpayers money on programs?
They don't mind the high COEs, the high cost of public housing, the ever-increasing transport fares, they feel it is very creative of the garmen to find ways to squeeze them while they continuing to enjoy high salary and high profits. 🀷 ζœ‰ηš„ζ„Ώζ‰“οΌŒζœ‰ηš„ζ„ΏζŒ¨οΌŒ ζˆ‘εˆζœ‰δ»€δΉˆεŠžζ³•οΌŸ 🀷

Are you willing to live with traffic congestion? If your loved one was in an ambulance stuck in rush hour traffic, what would you say?

Are public transport fares unaffordable for the majority? Do the minority who cannot afford get some form of community assistance?

Why don't you blame the US Federal Reserve's QE that's driving property bubbles all over Asia-Pac?
3boys, in case you have forgotten, the traffic congestion, high COE problems are partly (maybe substantailly) caused by PAP. LHL promised to make car ownership affordable and to tax on usage, hence the ERP. Look what happen now, double whammy - car owners are penalised by high cost of car ownership and car usage. High costs of HDB - Singapore is one country which could have a better control over housing prices as 80% of our population live in public flats. But sadly, the PAP has let public housing be turned into private apartments and allow HDB prices to hike to today's level and are difficult to be reined in. This is always my pet peeves, why allow PRs to buy public flats and be able to rent it out somemore!

You have exactly the same elitist thinking of the PAP, who think that public transport fares are affordable, that's why it's ok to increase a few cents! To the poors, every cents count. That's the reason for my support of the WP, at least they served with passion and their hearts.

Heck, I voted opposition last time.

When was your yahoo thingy? I had heard a discussion back in 1998 about priority for wedded couples with children for HDB flats, so it's been floating around in ether for over 2 decades.

You are right that the PAP has deviated from its strategic directions. In my view, that has a lot to do with Singaporeans having less of a stomach to deal with tough policies.

There are 2 parts to what the government needs to do.

              1) Grow the economy and tax base and make money for the country.

              2) Spend that money to help its citizens have a better life.

In order to do 2), we first need to do 1). And the PAP g'ment is pretty good at 1), but less good at 2).

              What's in the WP manifesto?

              2), 2), 2).......mostly.

Show me some more of 1), how you make the tough trade offs, maybe they'd have more cred. Speak publicly about how you will RAISE the tax base, tell it to your supporters, we will raise GST, we will raise income tax. You will have my vote tomorrow, WP, instantly.

Am I entrenched? Sorta, in that I am wedded to fiscal responsibility, to 1) before 2).

Which is why I am dismissive of manifestos that have spend spend spend mostly. I reiterate any Ah Pek can cook up a spend policy, and I have heard many more creative ones that have been bandied about.

So the WP take credit for coming out first with a spend idea? Well, did they suggest a way to make the money in the first place? The PAP bears the brunt of the brickbats due to tough economic policy, and the WP wins credit for spending it?

              Funny, isn't it?

Please read my post again. The poorer off MUST be looked after. But what is the more effective way of spending the precious dollars? Subsidise public transport for all, including the bank CEO on his way from his Orchard Road condo to his office in Raffles City? Or charge a recoverable rate in fares, affordable to the majority, but GIVE money back to the poor that will cover the fares and MORE?

Just want to share my 2 cents worth.

81:6, no matter what good alternatives WP comes up with, it will be shot down flat. How to pass in Parliament?

The men/women on the street will not remember what have been discussed in Parliament but they will always remember what have been done for them on ground level. People will not remember, 3 years ago, so and so said this and that in Parliament but people will remember, 5 years ago, so and so helped me to get a job.

Seriously, I don't need WP to come up with some wonderful alternatives, I just need them to do the much needed check and balance. It is never safe to have just one person to look after the golden nest.

If it was a straight walk over in GE2011, I seriously don't think there will be a ministers' pay review, SG conversation (which I still have no faith in it), control in FT's flow, cooling measures and the latest baby perks which is such a great coincidence that it was announced days before PE BE :?

I will vote for any credible oppo, be it WP or NSP or even RP if they proved themselves. To me, having oppo is about check, check and more check πŸ˜„
