But I want to know if my CPF is safe.
If you look at the credit ratings given to the Singapore govt, it IS AAA. And if you can read the balance sheet of the Singapore govt, I think you will agree with me that the assets far exceeds the liabilities. As such, it is as safe as can be.sinoboy:
This is a difficult question to answer. As you are aware of, money is fungible. All the money that goes into the purse of the govt becomes mixed. Undoubtedly, some of the govt's money has gone into investments like UBS and Micropolis. However, bad investments like that does not affect the ability of the govt to pay you back your CPF.Did it ever go to unsafe investments and if it is not safe who do I look for.

People are living longer but people are also losing their jobs and can't find suitable employment in their 30s and 40s either through retrenchment when employers finding costs here too high or losing jobs to FTs. So can't say people live longer so collect CPF later, when the fact is one leg is already in the coffin. Not everyone has a few properties to collect rents.
This is not a CPF problem. This is a labour, immigration, land planning and economic development problem. There is also a healthcare problem... -

This wan check alone won't help much lar... Printing money as in your post's context that wan har, only one solution to it--- maintain a strong economy
It would be a sad day for Singapore if our government has to print money to pay CPF obligations. Feels like a last resort thing. Can happen sooner than later without checks? :scratchhead: -
concern2:
On second reads, I get what you mean..take back my åčę£.. Hope I hadn't created any balukus on you :siam:
:skeptical: Is that what you guys call \"sweeping statement\" :nunchuk:3Boys:
But it'll be nice to know that they can make hard and unpopular choices, and that their supporters will support them for it. -
Balukus?! hahaha... so long didn't hear that word

Dr KPK recounted,
\"My mum would strip the fish bare of all the flesh, mesh it up, mix it in the porridge and flavour it with some soya sauce. And that was all we'd get for a meal,\" he said, adding that his mother would eat only the bones, fish head and tail.
\"There were times when we could not even afford this. A tin of biscuits given by my uncle would be the ration for the whole family for a couple of weeks,\".

Completely hypothetical. But it'll be nice to know that they can make hard and unpopular choices, and that their supporters will support them for it.
Actually, they did. They came up with a ministerial pay review formula that ended up with about the same ballpark figures as the PAP's. They got panned by the other opposition supporters. Not sure about the core WP supporters though...
I imagine that LTK's statement that the govt's policy changes will take time to implement and that Singaporeans should give the govt that time did not go down too well with the fringe either. -

We can help these people in other ways. The best of which is to keep employment rates high. Singapore has one of the highest employment rates in the world. This thing about 'one leg in the coffin' is concocted out of nowhere on the basis of a few anecdotal incidences to debunk what is basically a sound pensions system. -

Ok, back to topic. I think PAP could possibly do better if they had simply re-fielded Michael Palmer. :spank:pirate:
But of course we r digressing fr d topic of dis thread.
Cor.....I don't know what to say :stompfeet:
Brilliant, actually :rotflmao:
Agreed. Michael Palmer will probably gets another term due to his popularity among residents, especially aunties & kids. -

Alright, I know we are on the same side on this particular aspect.3Boys:
