      Hi hi

am new to this forum... read about TAS from the parents.
Was wondering what will be a good age to send my girl for their classes... she's in P1 this year. Can read but can't really express herself well in writing.
      Any advice pls?
I feel the younger the better. If your child can cope, should send as early as P1 but if your child is already quite advanced then maybe p3 would still be ok.

        Hi TSHmummy,

I'm not sure exactly how they teach so can't answer how they use their books. But my kids come back with worksheets after every session - so those would be extra stuff outside of the books. Usual headers for those worksheets would include grammar, synthesis, vocab, compre - sometimes there are cloze, compre mcq and punctuation.

        Hi hquek,

Thank you. Do your kids use the books in class?

p1 books not required. for the p4 class, they use the creative writing book. i recall them using the other books at times in the past years. spelling book is ALWAYS in use, the had gone through the book and then teacher restart.

writing well i feel comprises of various inputs. child should ideally have good command of grammar and vocab on hand, plus healthy dose of imagination. That why i had no qualms starting my kids young with tas. they include all aspects of english lamguage in their program.

            Hi,

Anyone knows how TAS sets the new syllabus compre for p1-4 level? My kids school still uses the old syllabus…and the teacher has not much idea on what it is like. My kids used to be in TAS when it was the old syllabus and i found them very good but had to withdraw when we moved house. But now I find I still need tuition for them as the school is not on par with the changes in moe.

              Hi,

TAS has adjusted the lesson with reference to the guideline set by MOE especially for new graphics comprehension for affected student as well as writing class. For my son school the teacher also has reading period and need student to bring one story book weekly for discussion. This is moving towards the new syllabus.

                  Hi Rockdiva,

You need to get a referral from a TAS parent and you would have $10 off for your term fees.

                    Hi parents,

Which is better, the regular class or pure creative writing? How often do they do writing for the regular class? Thanks!

And that's first term only. after that, you have to be pretty diligent to get referrals (one per term) to get $10 off that term's fees. More than 1 referral sign up during the term, they will still deduct only $10 off.

                        Hi nicnac,

This is based on my experience and a few of my friends:

Regular class- most classes would finish up one compo in 2-3 weeks. They would get the children to write out parts of the compo. The lower primary would take a while longer than the upper primary. For p6, which my girl is in now, they can cover 2 compos in one lesson. They revise one compo (eg accident) and teach a new one (bomb). They may not finish teaching all two compos in one lesson but I find for upper primary, they do cover more compos.

Pure writing- they go into greater detail for the techniques and of course much more writing is covered.

If your child only needs help for writing, then just go for Pure writing. My kids go for regular classes as I find they can be weak in compre as well.
