That's how it's done. The top classes will have more materials to learn. I guess this is one of the reasons why so many kids go to tuition.

To stay in top class so as not to lose out and also not to lose out to kids who are in the top class

The impression that I get is that the educators believe this is the best way. Efficient and effective.

I know but somehow i think all students should have access to these information and materials so that the whole cohort can improve and pulled up together then just depending on the first 2 classes. I do nolt remember such differentiation during my school days. Unless maybe i was not aware.

To be honest the reality of how important the PSLE is really hits me only recently as i know more about the system and also read about how only 20% of the Top JC spots are allocated to general students that are not in the JC IP programmes ( in the Sunday Times ) . Meaning to say you must do really really well if you want to get to any of the top 5 JCs ( if you in a typical Sec school ) as now these JCs all take in students at Sec 1. Hence the PSLE really seems to be the springing board to a potential spot in the uni. I can only now understand the stress that parents go through for PSLE and why so many of my frens stop work for 1 year / 2 years to support their child in P5 & P6. ( I am a late mummy and many of my frens already went through this phase and i couldn't really put myslef in their shoes earlier ) Now i know.......

Yes, for parents and kids aiming for the IP schools, the stress level is high. But I think kids who have the abilities to study in those schools will get in either at PSLE or at O levels. Anyway there are many more schools in Singapore. Maybe becos I came from a no brand neighbourhood sec school, so the fear factor is lesser LOL.

As for materials, it’s not so bad becos there are public libraries and Internet, plus many of the centres do publish their works. So it’s not like there’s a shut down in information if the child is not in the top classes. For example Science Heuristic books can be found in the public libraries too.

Still peek in occasionally, just to amuse myself at times...

Maybe CNY is coming, so all are still in the slow mode.
