I packed recess food and sometimes also include lunch for my son. I think it is better this way because home make food is always better quality and more nutritious than canteen food. Just need to sacrifice about 15 minutes of sleep in the morning to prepare food from my heart. My son likes it as he does not have to queue and have enough time to play with his friends. Only problem is that sometimes he forgot to bring back the food container and sometimes he lost it for good.

Even if prices of raw ingredients increases, still doesn’t justify for $1 a prata. I think even a mid joint wing of $0.50 seems a bit steep for pri sch.

I agree, home cook / packed food is better, but I'm a little concern packing him lunch, esp on days when Sch finishes at 1.45pm. The food would hav been in the box in room temp for at least 7 hours.

$2 is definitely enough for recess for lower primary . Provided the boy does not buy drinks. There many water coolers all over the Sch.
My DS has a classmate whom receives $5 pocket money a day. So guess what ???? The boy eats the usual food $1-$2, buys a bottle of drink $1, buys a big pkt of potato chips $1.50 :yikes: :scared:

Any of your son is in the Chinese Speech and Drama Club? Care to share what the Club does and if this CCA is worth joining?

For lunch, I usually pack either pizza, fried rice or 'chai' pau. Food like egg mayo sandwich or 'siew mai' which spoil faster are for recess only. Pizza are home made, cut into correct portion and put into the freezer. Then the night before I thaw it in the fridge and heat up in toaster in the morning. My son has no problem (food poisoning) with his packed lunch.

All hail emdad, for he has spoken again...

And again, let's not judge the school, the the teachers, the administration, the bus operators, the canteen operators, the boys.... but let's evaluate ourselves, not overreact, manage our expectation, our judgement....

You must be surely the number 1 model parent all school is hoping to have...

                      Cheers!
Now now, there is no need for sarcasm flyboy744. My ending statement says it very clearly - \"My only request if anything out of this, is for the stall operators and school to ensure that they operate ethically, i.e. if you charge $2, please make sure the food is worth $2.\"

Based on what I'm reading from various parents' entries to this topic, it does seem like this is not the case. Aren't we all glad that one of us actually bothered to write to the school for proper actions? They need time to investigate and under the worst case scenario, need time to source for new operator.

Let's approach school related matters in a more measured and calm manner. Our children are smarter than we think, and they learn through observations i.e how we behave and react.

                        Huh ? \"Clever\" ?
The sweet drinks & the potato chips are so unnecessary & if consumed on a daily basis, very unhealthy too. And I feel $5 is really too much. As an adult, I only need $5 for my brunch, and I may stil get some change back...

There was a stall that was selling ice-cream for $1.20 I wonder if its still selling .
