How to Teach your kid to focus in class?
-
Recently,I got to know a trainer who teaches Brain Training which help the kid to be more focus. She also teaches minmapping and motivational classes too.
Anyone who’s keen,PM me for her contact. -
It depends on the child learning style. Different child learn differently. Need to understand if he or she is auditory, visual or kinesthetic. Kinesthetic child are sort of person who can’t seat still. Tend to be restless and need to do stuff. So best is to show, move around when learning. As for auditory, its easier, just talk it out, easy to understand for them. Visual group of people, need to see or read the subject, before understanding . Different child react and study differently.
I got to learn about this when my child attended a workshop on accelerated learning… -

How about a 6 year old? How to get her to focus? She jumps from topic to topic when she talks and I get complaints from teachers that she will drift on in class all the time.
Hi cheerymummy, my ds is 6yrs old too.. he dont focus on his work.. instead teachers got to constantly remind him to be focus.. i try to encourgage his good behavior more regularly these days..
before any lesson or by the end of the day, i'll go thru a list of right behavior expected..
For example, end of today when i pick DS from his CC i'll have a short chat with teachers to understand what is DS's recent problems.. It could be walking about during lesson, not focusing when teachers are teaching or even refuse to do his homework.. So before bedtime, i'll take a piece of paper and write down what is expected of him the next day together with him in checklist format..
He participates by selecting the color of the color pencils i use to write.. then i tel him.. This paper will be given to the teachers.. he got to behave well and i'll see how many boxes in the checklist his teachers have ticked.. When he behave appropriately (most boxes ticked), i'll ask him to recap did his teachers scolded him frequently or praised him.. which behavior makes him feel good.. he is able to notice the different treatment teachers give him when he behave appropriately and when he behave badly.. So he tries to follow those guided behavior on the checklist..
DS also has the tendency of hoping from 1 topic to another.. what i do is constantly remind him that we are at TOPIC A now.. we can address TOPIC B later after we complete A.. Sometimes they maybe upset when we stop them from going further.. but i'll just explained to him ONE AT A TIME.. i explain to him using this analogy.. When i feed u 1 spoonful of rice can you swallow? his reply is yes.. When i feed u 2 spoonful of rice can you swallow? his reply is no.. then i ask him.. Why no? his reply is because the mouth is full.. I further explain to him.. its the same concept.. our brain hands and eyes can do a thing by a time.. so only after we accomplished task A then we will tackle task B..
Hope my method works for your DD too..
My son is 4yrs old and he cannot count from 1 to 10, cannot \"sing\" A to Z. Can't recognise the characters A to Z. I guessed the reason was he didnt attend pre-N & was taken care by bb sitter. We are still trying very hard to tempt him to study by rewarding scheme...(which I dun think thats the correct way but its sort of motivating him to study at least 15mins per night- just recognising characters) -
Hi 3entity,
Like your analogy. My ds replied me he can have 2spoonfuls, small spoons . I was like gritting my teeth.
He does his homework in a rush with mistakes just to get away from home/school work. And he off to read storybook … comic book only.
How to teach him, next yr P3 , another subject for him . He will find it too overwhelm. Need advice. -
Ivy Ang Siow Kia:
Dear Ivy,Hi,
Ya, my son also very bad at focusing until he reach 7 years old. I sent him for asessment at KKh too, for about 3 mths and I picked up some very useful tactics to handle my child in terms of focusing during work, when someone is talking to him etc. I used them consistantly even until today.
He can't finish a piece of worksheet by himself and couldn't focus for more than 5 mins. He would feel stressed and complain of chest pain, which is worrying. I had shared with the childcare centre which he was previously attending and even to his current P1 teacher, the childcare centre was supportive and applied the tactics and find it useful too and his concentration span improved. It needs a lot of constant reminders, and its hard work for the dedicated teachers. We have to put in alot of efforts as well.
If anyone of u want me to share the tactics, please pm me.
Ivy
I came across your old post and would appreciate if you could share with me the tactics please ....many thanks -
