Weighing in on the earlier transport discussion...
Although minor fare increments are affordable for many of us, we can't assume that this means everybody is doing okay.
I know of people who walk for hours to their destinations to save costs. It would be good if the Government can give vouchers to poorer families when there is a fare hike. The transport companies should also be able to justify the fare hikes with facts and figures, and not increase fares for the sake of keeping up with general inflation.
Another problem pertains to the crowds in the trains. For example, I can take the train at this time, 3.40pm, and there won't be a single empty seat. I did not know that 3-4pm is also rush hour. :skeptical: Although the trains in other crowded cities like HK, Seoul and Taipei are packed during peak hours, they are relatively empty during non-peak hours. Are the transport companies in Singapore so profit-oriented that they can't bear to increase train frequencies during non-peak hours so that commuters can actually sit down?
I think it's reasonable to suggest that many of our frustrations with the transport services stem from our frustrations that the Government has not prepared Singapore adequately for the huge inflow of immigrants. So, when I heard that our Government is aiming at 7 million people, I was really :? Can the PAP take it? -

I agree. But an across-the-board subsidy is not the answer is it? Why should taxpayers money be used to subsidise all and sundry when it's better used on those who really need it?Weighing in on the earlier transport discussion...

Has the same stand with the highlighted.
Yea yea. Whoever wins, let's keep within our sight dat SG is moving towards a better tomolo for everyone.concern2:
I pray that who ever wins, whatever the results, it is for the betterment of Singapore. This is the WP spirit, and the Singaporean spirit, isn't it?
It's been an interesting 9 days of campaigning.
d 2 main opponents hv basically ignored d other 2 contestants.
Wat started out as local contest bwt a 'poor' son of Punggol vs a 'hardworking' daughter of Punggol shifted into a new direction midstream into d campaign - d BE became a 'referendum' on WP n PAP performances.
PE voters hv been unfairly offered a false dilemmma.
Dis is not about two extreme choices of either for cohesion or divisive politics - there can be many degrees of co-operation bwt these two extremes.
It can only be gud for SG if we hv more alternative voices than just one dominant party in parliament to offer various alternatives to be debated rationally n soundly, to keep each other in check for d betterment of SG.
At 80:6, one more MIW wld not make much of a difference. But one more alternative voice will speak louder n make a greater difference than one more MIW voice drowned in a background of similar views.
Will Pungollians chose hope for a better SG of tomorrow over fear of change?
We live in hope. -

You guys should go to mosque, church, temple and whatever places of worship today to pray for them
Thought I read/ heard somewhere some resident went to waterloo street to pray for LLL.
Why you never say b4 ?
Just back from Waterloo street but visited the other temple
And no prayers for the elections . Prayed for world peace though
Donce bluff pray for world peace!
u went to pray for KJ right?
dat fellow need all d prayers he can get after he hantam WP last nite when he previously said he was all for oppo solidarity.
[/quote]Please la, dun insult me - KJ winning - that would be a nightmare. Thankfully the probability is 0.000000000000000000000001. And probably even he knows that. The only thing he can do is make WP lose.
I believe MLK's talk - content of character not colour of skin
On an off topic note I do prayer for world peace (its a sanskrit prayer - Lokah samasta sukhino bhavantu . Meaning: May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all. )
