So mummies and daddies, when are your child going to start on their CCA? My ds school has not even confirm which cca he is assigned to but my dd has already started on her's.

P6 dd - started last week.
Sec1 DS - still pending to know which UG he's allocated to. 2nd CCA started last week.

Just found out from DD, UG in her school don't seems to be popular choice. So maybe it's belong to those of 'cold' cca. Wonder how the teachers will allocate the students.

Guess that's why in DS school, UG is mandatory (exception for those in competitve sports). All have to choose a 2nd CCA from sports/club & societies/performing arts. Otherwise many will siam UG.
Personally I am fine with a mandatory UG.......in fact, a good policy. Much as i know benefits of UG (commitment, fitness, discipline etc), if given a choice, I (& DS) may still Siam it. So in this case, no choice is good šŸ˜‰

And from what I understand, most if not all of them will definitely be able to get their 2 points for admission to JC. Like what Skyed mentioned, no pain no gain. šŸ˜„

Uniform group will expands the kids knowledge, and instills discipline, teamwork, confidence and sense of pride.......Sec Schools is a time of changes from boys / girls to teenagers, and CCAs are healthy outlets to occupaid their time. My DS is in a boys schools and he is in a UG and club....many of his classmates are in 2 CCAs as well....

All the practices, extra time spent doing guard duty etc with Saturdays burnt, is the poor child able to find time to revise ? 7 subjects isn't easy at all. My crazy husband asked son to join NPCC  ...I almost slaughtered him. Next week, suppl lessons begin...will reach home close to 5pm and just beginning Sec 1. :nunchuk:  :stompfeet: is that man crazy ?

Fathers think differently from mothers, especially towards sons, I think. Even for my younger girl (who is a more active, tougher type than my older one), my husband encourages her to get into more things. He would be even more so with a son. Of course, the child's ability to cope and personal interests would have to be taken into account.

Not true. DH told son even before choosing CCA. NO UG!!! That takes too much time and you will end up in trouble with your work. Everything is good depending if you can cope. No need to add extra stress. Mommy will go crazy.

Parents, how much pocket money do you give to your Sec 1 children?

I get $2.50 for recess, and another $2.50 for lunch if I need to have lunch in school.

usually $4 or $5 per day if he eat at school.

We give our boy $30 per week. For both recess & lunch. But it is not enough. He prefers to have his lunch at Junction 8 which will cost him $5-6 per meal (food court or fast food)

Perhaps you can limit him to one meal a week at that kind of place and insist that he eats in the school the rest of the time. I told my kids that my budget for them is for school prices, and if they want to eat more expensively, they will have to save from other days.

I gives the same amount also although my DW usually packs food for his recess. He eats quite often in nearby shopping centre but I told him that sometimes, he can eat at school canteen. I told him to manage the allowance carefully so that it will last him the whole week. For transport and other expenses, I give him separately. So far, there is no problem.

Hubby told son he took scouts back then...how his Sunday was burnt having to stay at home to finish school homework. Why Sunday? Bcos after scout CCA on saturdays, he was too tired after that to get anything done. So we had an agreement - NO UG.

Today, son stayed back for CCA...first day. Then he said there may be days he has to stay till 7 for CCA...I was like :yikes: wake up at 6am and last till 7pm in school? :nailbite: Only Sec 1 and school life is so demanding?
