We give our boy $30 per week. For both recess & lunch. But it is not enough. He prefers to have his lunch at Junction 8 which will cost him $5-6 per meal (food court or fast food)

I gives the same amount also although my DW usually packs food for his recess. He eats quite often in nearby shopping centre but I told him that sometimes, he can eat at school canteen. I told him to manage the allowance carefully so that it will last him the whole week. For transport and other expenses, I give him separately. So far, there is no problem.mummy so kiasu:

Perhaps you can limit him to one meal a week at that kind of place and insist that he eats in the school the rest of the time. I told my kids that my budget for them is for school prices, and if they want to eat more expensively, they will have to save from other days. -
Hubby told son he took scouts back then...how his Sunday was burnt having to stay at home to finish school homework. Why Sunday? Bcos after scout CCA on saturdays, he was too tired after that to get anything done. So we had an agreement - NO UG.
Today, son stayed back for CCA...first day. Then he said there may be days he has to stay till 7 for CCA...I was like :yikes: wake up at 6am and last till 7pm in school? :nailbite: Only Sec 1 and school life is so demanding? -

During my time, I received 50 cents a day for recess and it was just enough for a piece of cake and a cup of hot tea, or a plate of noodles. If I needed to stay back and have lunch in school, I only received $2.

Lol when you get to upper sec your time is spent on studies instead of CCA =.= My sec school have study camp for Sec 4s, optional for some and compulsory for some. But having gone through the different times of our lives, only can you really see how much better off children are nowadays. That is why, when I have a teaching moment with my kids, I relate to them my past experiences. For example, I would forego recess just to save money to buy a badminton racquet as I represented my school. I also had to borrow a pair of football boots from my neighbour to wear for school tournament although it was ill fitting (too tight) and I ended up with blisters all over my feet and had to miss an important game.kwcllf:

Yes, regardless of what CCA you join, you have to stay till 6 -7pm on CCA day.
