My condolence to the family. It is so sad to loose 2 children at one go. I am damn sad. Couldn't sleep the whole night after hearing the news. :gloomy: -
It's time the Government listen to the people. Bicycles are a necessity if the distance one needs to travel warrants it. Walking a 2 bus stop distance is tiring yet doesn't make sense to take a bus esp when public transport is not feasible. Excuses about lack of space, feasibility etc were made before when the public called for bicycle lanes. If these lanes are built, I'm sure the no of cars will drop as more people choose to cycle instead of driving. If pavements are widened, I'm sure cyclists and pedestrians will co-exist peacefully. Is it because it's too painful to kill the COE cash cow? :siam:
Why not build humps at every junctions and increase the stopping distance between the vehicles? The poor boys were obviously knocked down when the truck was trying to turn, irregardless the lights was in his favour. Does gaining that extra cm makes any difference? I saw many drivers do that and I always shoot them that dirty look which said \"Back Off and don't you come nearer\" while I was crossing the road. :rant:
How about giving cash vouchers to those who catch drivers flouting traffic rules? These errant drivers should be made to pay heavy fines to fund this project. Better still, if drivers are found reckless, they should be punished by caning or jail term with their licences suspended for life. No point suspending their licences for 1 year or 2 and release them back to endanger others again. Our authorities should act tough with these offenders cos we can't bring back innocent lives and no amount of regrets/remorse will help. Fatal accidents should be treated as murder or manslaughter. :mad: :mad:
Sorry that I'm ranting cos I've so many bad experiences involving reckless drivers especially when I cycle not to mention when I was using the road as a pedestrian. One has to be very defensive when cycling on our roads and I only allow my boys to cycle for pleasure - away from the roads. They are not allow to ride motorcycles.
Children should be taught to stand as far away from the road as possible while waiting at the junctions and cross only when all vehicles have stopped. One cannot afford not to be too kiasu here. If I didn't impressed on my boys on road safety, I would have lost 1 or 2 of them. :nailbite:
Last night, I prayed for the mother of these poor boys esp cos I'm a mother myself and my heart goes out to her. This accident sent alarm bells in me to pray for journey mercy for my boys (something that I seldom do as I take it for granted). Today, I prayed for road safety for all the children cos this accident keeps coming to my mind the whole day. Just pray that this accident should be the last. :sad: :sad: -

Each time I tried to close my eyes to sleep, images of the 2 boys (from the pictures i saw) would flash in front of me.. Didn't sleep a wink last night.. Was crying the whole night..
CNY is around the corner.. How is the family going to cope with the grief, while everyone else is celebrating CNY.. :sad: -
All these online chatters from different social medias do help. It can help to prompt the authorities to act immediately. Not really sure whether what HSK announced today would help much though.

I read the news and felt very sad. When I saw 1 photo I cried. The pain was too much. I could not work for a few hours. It is too much to lose 1 child, to lose both is unbearable. It is so so tragic. My heart goes out to the parents.

Why are there more cyclists?
Nowadays, I am seeing more and more cyclists, some in a group and bunching together taking up the whole lane. Sometimes only 1 or 2 cyclists, but never see them cycling close to the roadside. In fact, I am seeing these cyclists every morning when I drops my DS off at MRT station for him to take the train to school. Its about time the govt enforce some safety rules before we see more mishaps!ChiefKiasu:
It is never safe to ride a bicycle on Singapore's roads! Cars do not give way to motorcyclists, much less cyclists. Yet I see people do this everyday, some even riding against the flow of traffic.
It is time for the LTA to seriously consider building bicycle paths, at least from HDB flats to schools. This can come in the form of widening of pedestrian foot-walks to include a lane for bicycles.
More people, higher transport cost, unreliable transport in the form of overcrowding, long waiting time and bad route planning.
An eg. of bad route planning, if you are an ACS or SCGS student going to United Square after school (one of the bigger mall nearest to school with lots of kids stuff), there is no direct bus despite the proximity! -

I dare not see the pictures…bcos I know I won’t be able to take it.
But imagine the mother’s anguish knowing both her sons are dead.
I hope the ministry will go all out to extend whatever is possible to the family.
Children have to be reminded firmly they should not stand at road junctions in case drivers make u-turns and lose their grip. Stand further away and make sure cars really stop before crossing the road. -
There are errant cyclists but surely as drivers we were taught one way or the other on being cautious especially when approaching traffic lights, pedestrian crossings or when the road is poorly lit. Reminders to chekc blind spots, when turning check and check. Guess at some point when we become seasoned drivers, we get complacent and don’t bother unless something like this happens.
I remembered having a lecture from my instructor that regardless even if the pedestrian has crossed the road, we should still give the benefit of doubt they will turn back and shouldnt just drive past them the moment they walk past the car.
Drivers here seem to have issues slowing down at zebra crossings, I was honked just because I slowed down (not stop) and this person honked again and zoomed past me. Pardon my language but I call these drivers short "d**ks, some weird gungho way of ego.
It is all about tolerance, not every country has cycling tracks and the drivers give way and just signal away. I remembered cycling in UK (no cycling tracks) and froze in the middle of a junction. Cars stopped and waited and gesture me to move along. Some just move slowly around me.
Kids can be taught about safety but everything needs 2 hands to clap. I do think and cry. maybe his elder brother just happened to ask about his younger bro day at wushu and that split moment this happened. -
I am devastated.
May the boys RIP.
Instead of having the LTA and traffic police running after every second of opport to issue parking fines, why don’t you patrol along the roads more diligently and catch speeding heavy vehicles every day and every where !?!
