All About Full-Time Maids

I suppose nobody’s perfect - they should be judged by their overall work performance, and not the occasional sickness or some chronic condition. Someone almost sent their made away - but at the end realised she was very short-sighted - always made mistakes in the kitchen, and cleaning is not done properly! They made a pair of glasses for her (supposed to be a farewell present!) but she turned out to be their best helper so far.

I work part-time. The agent advised me to put myself as employer. MOM looks at joint family income. Some women may not earn enough to qualify for minimum income requirement. Families can also sponsor maid for retired grandparents who live elsewhere.Hi,
I have a question, hoping someone here can help.
I used to have a maid, who, because of problems, I transferred out last year in Feb. Due to thus, I also left my job and became a SAHM. So pretty much whole of last year I had no income. Now, I have landed a new position, which I need to start next week. I have already started looking for a new maid. My question is will my application be accepted even though I had no income last year. I prefer to take her under my name so that I can take advantage of the income tax relief. -

I agree, if the condition is mild and under control with low medical cost, then consider to keep her, especially if she is good. She might also appreciate and be loyal to you. But just make sure that she knows that you are keeping her in spite of her illness.
if she's just mildly asthmatic then an inhaler should be enough to keep it under control in which case the cost would be relatively low. Is it fair to transfer her to another employer because you don't want to pay for it?dooelsie:
My maid could not breathe and I brought her to the doctor, she say she had ashma when she was 10 and had small attacks regularly but hid it away frm us. Her housework has not been completed all this while and the Doctor gave medicine and her ashma should be under control for now but I dont know whether to keep her cos she still want to stay on with us.
She did not declare her illness and if I keep her I will hv to keep watch on her and send her to doc for medicine for I dont know how long. I guess if i send her back to the agent she will be transfered. What advice would you give? I did not inform the agent yet.
However, I wonder whether this has any impact on her insurance. It is a pre-existing condition that she did not declare.... Might be a good idea to check this out on \"no name\" basis. -

Nms1, pls read my post and not jump to conclusions. No where did i say that i do not want to pay for simple medication for a mild medical problem. Although employers are not obliged to provide medical care for chronic pre-existing medical conditions. Not even an insurance company will do that! And it is not responsible to transfer her to another unsuspecting employer without informing them of her condition. Pls do not imply this as the next logical solution. I am more concerned that I have to keep watch on her as her condition could develop into chronic asthma. I have a friend's son who passed away from an asthma attack because he did not have his medication at hand. -

Does your maid do light chores like sweeping the floor and tidying before she leaves for her day off? What does she do after she returns from her off day - help with washing / keeping of dishes or stay in her room?
My Phil ex-maid ( with me for 4 years ) used to prepare juice, sweep and tidy the house before she left. When she returned, she would wash / keep the dishes ( if there were any ) [ we never intentionally left dishes, but her timing for return would be after our dinner if we happened to eat at home ] and throw garbage, before retiring to her room for the night.
My relative’s Phil maid ( working in Spore for 3 years ) will clean floor and toilets before leaving on her off day at 9 plus am, and help with dishes and clean up after she returns at 7pm plus.
My friend’s Indo maid can only go off when family returns from church. She will clean and do light chores in morning, then must return by 6pm to prepare light dinner.
My new Phil maid refuses to even tidy the house before she leaves after having her breakfast at home. She says this is work and must pay if she works even a little on her off day. When she returns at 7pm (already has dinner before returning even though I offered to buy her dinner), shuts herself in room, sometimes talking loudly on mobile ( such that we can hear in dining room). I clean up dining table, wash dishes, throw garbage… And then she appears to go to toilet ( I believe she knows when the work is done ), ignores the washed dishes waiting to be kept and returns to her room and shuts door till next morn.
Is this the behaviour of new maids on off-days nowadays? Don’t lift finger to help at all and shuts herself in room? Am I expecting too much?
Honestly, I find her behaviour so calculative and such a turn-off. DH says don’t want to give increment for such attitude. Sure, doing these light chores is no big deal… I can handle the tidying in morning and wash up at night… In fact, I can do it faster than her. Is the behaviour of my exmaid, relative’s and friend’s maid the exception? And my new maid the norm?
How does your maid behave at home on her off-day? -
My current filo maid (has been with me for coming 6 yrs) will do some chores or sometimes cook light lunch for my kids before she goes out.
When she is back, she will take over whatever chores that I have yet to complete.
