School Teachers Working as Tutors
-
I feel that it’s ok for teachers to moonlight as tutors if they are able to handle the additional workload. However, it’s unethical for them to tutor students from their schools, or solicit business for themselves while doing their day jobs… All I can say is, don’t let the P find out.

I am a tuition agent from Justin Tutors. Basically, according to MOE regulation, current school teachers are only allowed to teach a maximum of 6 hrs per wk for their tuition.

Precisely...these are the ones who spoil everything.
They can give tuition if they can afford the time...but not to own students. In fact, not even from same school. My friend and her son are stressed bcos the teacher kept calling her or giving her son a tough time each time teacher's request is turned down. How to tolerate till September?
This teacher is a senior one. -

Is she harassing other students in the same class and giving everyone a hard time as well? Or the whole class are her tuition students except your friend's son? Really shouldn't tolerate, more so for a senior teacher! -
Don’t know if she approached other parents…since it is illegal, she would have done so quietly. My friend’s son is upset bcos teacher picks on him…practically using fear tactic to force parents to agree. This is emotional blackmail!!!
Whether other classmates are being tutored by her or not, this is unacceptable. -
From my understanding, MOE stated clearly that each officer is allowed not more than 6 hours per week to do any side lines.
And officers can only tutor students from other schools instead of their own school’s. Unless it is FOC.
If reported to school, it can be dealt with seriously. -

If this teacher continues to give the boy a hard time, my friend will be approaching the P...no way will she allow the teacher to use mental abuse on her son. From my understanding, MOE stated clearly that each officer is allowed not more than 6 hours per week to do any side lines.

Most of them should be earning quite a lot by the time they finish their bond. I have one relative earning about $8000 per month teaching in a JC.elderflowertea:

i suppose the extra income can cover those... how much does a teacher earn? $4k?? $5k??
Your relative earns $8k per month by just teaching in a JC? Not very likely unless he/she holds key position and has reached his scale ceiling, or he/she is a school leader. I know a retired Maths teachers whose last drawn pay was only $6k plus.[/quote]Urm, by the time they finish bond is only 3-4 yrs of work... V unlikely to earn more than 5k even for stellar performers.
8k? Am thinking must have worked abt 10 yrs... And high performance throughout.
