      Hi,

FYI, teachers or ex-teachers are charging $40-$50/hr or maybe more for Pri school student for one-to-one.
$20/hr might be charge by student still studying.
Ya, I know this. But oddly, many parents still requested a rate of $20-$25/hr .
      hmmm.....
Anyway, I had to reject several inquiries by agencies as I don't think I want to feel that I have been \"looked down upon\" with the rates the agencies/parents proposed. E.g. $30/hr for two pri 1 students. >.<
That would mean $15/hr for each student.
When I rejected, the agent sniggered.
And that was the last time that I bothered to pick up calls from this agency that have coordinators who snigger.

Besides, I know that sometimes I give bonus time up to 30 mins for the child.....so I won't accept lower rates....got to be fair to myself...

Anyway, it beats me how current trs moonlighting tuition can ever get it going when there's already endless amount of work from school itself.

Or probably it was just me who couldn't handle both work and tuition concurrently.

How effective is engaging a current school teacher to coach a lower primary child? Any parents here please comment about engaging a current school teacher based on your experience?

Heard from my nieces and nephews that their current school teachers sometimes do not turn up for lessons last min. Teacher say got meeting in school. Surely they are not told of the meeting last min? Some teachers also can’t come due to extra lessons in school, marking of school exam papers…

I prefer ex-school teachers or full time tutors though there will always be bad eggs around. No matter how carefully you choose, the possibility of getting a bad egg still exist!

This teacher is not moonlighting at a tuition centre.

She is approaching own students’ parents…$85/hour, min 2 hours 2x a week.
My friend is very pissed…her son’s teacher asked her if the boy has tuition and next thing she did was to tell my friend to let her teach after school.

I feel that it’s ok for teachers to moonlight as tutors if they are able to handle the additional workload. However, it’s unethical for them to tutor students from their schools, or solicit business for themselves while doing their day jobs… All I can say is, don’t let the P find out.

I am a tuition agent from Justin Tutors. Basically, according to MOE regulation, current school teachers are only allowed to teach a maximum of 6 hrs per wk for their tuition.

Precisely...these are the ones who spoil everything.
They can give tuition if they can afford the time...but not to own students. In fact, not even from same school. My friend and her son are stressed bcos the teacher kept calling her or giving her son a tough time each time teacher's request is turned down. How to tolerate till September?
This teacher is a senior one.

If it's your friend DS teacher, you should report to the sch & not tolerate.

                        This teacher really too much!

Is she harassing other students in the same class and giving everyone a hard time as well? Or the whole class are her tuition students except your friend's son? Really shouldn't tolerate, more so for a senior teacher!
