One of our taiwanese friends got her PR few months after her arrival. She said her agent in Taiwan will handle all everything concerning Singapore Immigrations. She paid SIN$10,000.00 to get whole family PR status thru this Taiwanese agent.

She came her, few mths later, bought HDB 4 room flat. Few months later she rent a master-bed room in condo. Rent out her 4-rm flat. She is a study-mama, husband doing china business.

That is illegal for her case!

Can lah last time resale MOP only 1 year mah. After that anything also can lah.

There are agents in China, Taiwan and other countries whose open price is about SIN$10,000 one time payment. These agents will do everything until you get a PR. Does Singapore Immigration know about the existence of such asgent?

Is Population Growth a Ponzi Scheme?

The basic pitch of those promoting population growth is straightforward in its appeal: \"More is better.\" Joseph Chamie, who has spent a lifelong career as a demographer, including 12 years of service as the director of the United Nations Population Division, finds that more is not necessarily better.

It really looks like we are falling into it.

3boys is fast in reading Lucky Tan's blog nowaday which he used to dismiss as someone with an axe to grind with the government.

I don't think what people accusation of the ruling party is conspiracy theory. People in the ground can feel the effect long ago, just that they are not as articulated as scholars. a quote form the article succintly described the situation \"profits is privatised....the social cost of population increase nationalised..\" In simple words, the increase in population benefits a small group of connected elites through fat profits but the cost of increased population is spread out to the entire population. No wonder, average Joe don't feel the benefits of recent economic growth but only feel the cost.

You'd be surprised how many actually 'adopted' others' kids in the olden days when they wanted to have a boy / girl in an all-sons/all-daughters household. Some gave birth but not able to afford to bring up so many and was willing to let neighbour or relative bring them up.

In the olden days, carrying on one's surname means something. To have children is fortune and they believe in yang er fang lau.

Today, what is the big deal with carrying on the surname, children are a burden, rely on kid in one's old age, rather rely on oneself.

                Different mindset.

Yes, I so agree with this! The older folks were wiser![/quote]Hmm... I don't think yang er fang lau is wiser...

better 靠自己... have children because you want to, because you think it's meaningful, not because of their perceived economic value to you in old age...

that's why we're called the sandwich generation. look after parents (too late liao, they 养儿防老 mentality so didn't save for their own retirement, we bo pian have to provide for them), look after kids, gotta save for own retirement cos really shouldn't expect kids to have the means to look after us in old age.

times are different... those who believe they can still 养儿防老 are probably setting themselves up for disappointment. not that the kids are not fillial, but it's just going to be increasingly hard for them...

HDB flat owner must stay in the flat unless exceptional cases (need approval by HDB).

Rent out room is okay but cannot rent out the whole flat. Owner MUST occupy it.

They can buy as many private properties as they like, but own must stay in the HDB flat. This is HDB rule.

know of people around me (PR colleagues) circumventing that rule by locking up 1 room (so they are \"not\" renting out whole unit) and stay in private condo or at their own home in JB...

We shd do our duty as vigilance citizens and report to HDB/authorities for the sake of fellow countryman hunting for a flat.. these foreigners are driving up the flat prices..

HDB will have a way to investigate against those who flout the rules.

Nope, after MOP can rent out whole flat also. This is applicable to SCs, and PRs until the recent cooling measure in Jan this year. Prior to this, they can rent out the whole flat after MOP just like SCs. So many HDB rental units, where are the owners staying? Of cos in their condos!

Anyway, I know so many PR couples, where 1 of them convert to SC, so they bought new flats, and rent out while they went back to their home country to work. This is even during the MOP cos HDB allows renting out of HDBs during MOP if the whole family is posted overseas to work.

That’s why the stats show that only a couple of thousands of PR renting out their flats. This actually excludes those where 1 spouse have converted.

So actually the weakest link is allowing 1 of the PR couple to convert to SCs. All the cooling measures or whatever other measures will not work on these people who have the intention of abusing the system and cash in on the benefits. That’s why they should not allow only 1 spouse to convert. Want to convert both must convert together.
