I remember LKY was against having 6.5 million people in Singapore. Too bad now it is hard to hope that he can influence the current govt. He was also against having casinos here. Can we have him back to support our opinion in this 7 million people thingy? 😢

he got say dont want 6.5 million? what context?

:? I thot he was the one who wanted more?
Aiyoh, don’t everything also blame LKY lah. There were some good policies in the early days, like transforming Singapore into a garden city by having lots of greenery and expediting the building of cheap flats for resettlement.

Even his “Two is Enough” policy, although it did not result in the desired outcome, during that period and under those circumstances, that was what he thought was the best for Singapore. In fact, several overly populated countries were curbing population growth during the 70s/80s. Although I don’t fancy his underhanded tactics to secure power, he DID have the heart for Singapore and Singaporeans.

:scratchhead: Don't exactly get your point. You mean other countries are doing it, and we are just doing the same thing, if not, what our garmen should do if they don't do the same? 😆 Sorri, that's my \"layman's understanding\" of what you mean..

Yah. I very the long winded one. 😆

Hm...which other countries are using this model? Are we carrying this to the extreme? I mean - we have only that much land...and if bringing in more means having to build even more infrastructure to accommodate, aren't we back to square one? I can't see any improvement in people's standard of living..
I think Australia and recently New Zealand welcome immigrants to fill in the gaps for skilled jobs in demand. However, their requirements are much more stringent than Singapore. In recent years, Australians also not so happy as there are too many Asians. The other countries I think that embrace immigrants (not so sure) are UK, Canada and USA.

                  Not Shelford Green.

Balmoral was arranged by DH so I cannot remember the name.

The small projects in the area are in this price range.

For now, the few agents I spoke with all told me the best value is D’leedon. It was also mentioned by another forummer. I caveat that this is not advice to anyone.

I am PhD research student majoring in Economics and finance.

I am writing this as simply as I can. I am writing to all Singaporeans, as a Singaporean myself not to fall for this utterly disgraceful and poorly written amateurish script called the Population Growth 2030 White Paper released by Singapore Govt............
                    http://therealsingapore.com/content/it%E2%80%99s-propaganda-paper-disguised-white-paper

                    what you guys think?
Actually, I concur with the writer that the white paper is actually propaganda to convince us.

Relax, pals... it's not like the whole world of people is locking their migration target at Singapore, or there are no other attractive countries to accommodate them.

Yes there may be other attractive targets, perhaps even more attractive than Singapore. However Singapore is an easy migration target with wide open arms :frustrated:

You’re right, many treat this as a stepping stone to other “western” countries. My hubby encountered quite a number at his workplace, when after they’ve got the PR or have gained relevant trainings/experience, jump ship to other countries. They were unsuccessful in getting jobs or residency in the “western” countries initially, due to higher expectations/requirements, so come to Singapore first.

know of people around me (PR colleagues) circumventing that rule by locking up 1 room (so they are \"not\" renting out whole unit) and stay in private condo or at their own home in JB...

We shd do our duty as vigilance citizens and report to HDB/authorities for the sake of fellow countryman hunting for a flat.. these foreigners are driving up the flat prices..

HDB will have a way to investigate against those who flout the rules.

HDB should setup a department like those traffic wardens (for illegal parking) and will keep spot check those renting unit every night.
Good idea! :goodpost:
