My son was afraid I'll scold him for a 52% grade for Chinese...but with so many tests, I close one eye but reminded him to revise constantly.
My daughter is currently in NYGH and failing Chinese is quite normal for them.. But NY Chinese really too chim haha. -

It's normal to fail some tests in secondary school. Just make sure that they learn from their mistakes.janet_lee88:

Just to share a personal experience. In my previous secondary school, almost all the pure physics students failed their first physics test in sec 3 (feb, after CNY). I mean almost all the students got 0/50. Only 1 student had 2/50 --> highest in the level
I got zero too. Horror shock to me at that time. It was a rude wakeup call! However, it was comforting to know that everyone got zero! :hi5:
Reason: the teacher taught us as if we were undergrads. All his chim terms no one understood. He went fast like a train. He never asked as if we understood. :slapshead:
In the end, the principal called the teacher in for a chat --> must find out why the same bunch of students who scored more than 80 for science for sec 2 SA2 scored zero barely 4 months later.
Turned out. The paper set was way beyond our standard and we had a re-test. Suddenly our good grades returned and has continued ever since. -
Champion:
Mummy Janet, Happy New Year :hugs:
I have been reading your last few posts since you started this thread :salute: Hope what I am gonna say in the following, you will take it positively - It just my own humble opinions and hope it will encourage you :snuggles:
1) Place relationships first
Remind yourself that relationship is more important than results, and to look at what you can be thankful for in any situation. For example, when your son did not hit the targets he set for himself in any tests, you have to weigh what is more important. Do not harp on the results but take the opportunity to build the relationship with him from this small setback. Talk to him about how he felt, what went wrong and how he could have asked you for help instead of struggling on his own. Most important, Reiterate to him that you are on his side.
2) Look after yourself
When we donβt get enough sleep, our concentration, productivity and health will suffer. Lack of sleep also makes us more irritable and sensitive to othersβ remarks.
Remember to connect with yourself and schedule in some me-time. Once in a while have packed lunch for the kids so that you can have some me-time in the morning and need not be too rush to prepare lunch.
Doing something that makes us happy everyday will soothe our frazzled nerves and re-energise us. I am a full-time working mummy so time with my kids are limited and thus precious  I am learning the parenting skills - day by day, bit by bit. I am a short-tempered person but I am learning to control and let go many small things.
When we approach challenges in a calm and constructive manner, our children will learn and mirror these positive behaviours. Being positive and looking on the bright side of things also helps to change your mood and the atmosphere in the family. So smile and the whole world will smile with you.

Hi champion,
Thanks for the encouragement.
Since it is still the early stage of sec 1, I do not want to pressure him to score high marks...it is a steep learning curve this year with longer hours and more subjects. But the discipline to revise daily must be enforced.
4 subjects in a week in primary school, but now double the number of subjects and longer hours in school
English, (even his fav subject) Science is not easy. To help him, hubby and I have to read up to understand first. -

Hi TheAnswer,
Thanks for your offer.
I do not get Eng assessment books since my kids have tuition and use her materials. Same for Math (son). But if I need advice for recommendations of titles, I will PM you. Thanks again. -
