      Amount Alan saved more than Jane per week --> $4
      Total amount Alan saved more than Jane --> $84 - $60 = $24
      Number of weeks --> $24/ $4 = 6

      Alan's savings per week = $84/6 = $14
      Alan's pocket money in 4 weeks = $(14+17) x 4 = $124

          there were 4 times as many red pens as blue pens in a box. 415 red pens and 46 blue pens were removed from the box. as a result, the number of blue pens became 3 times as many as red pens. how many blue pens were there in the beginning?

              I can solve this question using the guess and check method. But i couldnt find an alternative method the guess and check method. can anyone help me?

                1 unit + 34 + 28 = 2 units
                1 unit --> 62

                at first, apples --> 124, oranges --> 192

                you can also work backwards:
                In the end,
                Oranges --> 1u
                Apples --> 1u + 28

                At first, there were 68 more oranges than apples:
                Oranges --> 2u
                Apples --> 1u+28
                So, 1u --> 28+68= 96

                Oranges--> 192,
                Apples --> 124

                      Ticket collection for every boy --> 5 x $5 = $25
                      Ticket collection for every girl --> 3 x $5 = $15


                      Assume that all the tickets are sold by boys, total ticket collection --> $25 x 24 = $600 (*extra amount collected by boys)

                      $ 600 - $ 40 = $ 560 --> extra amount added for girls' collection

                      Number of girls --> $ 560 /$(25+15) = 14
                      Number of boys --> 24 - 14 = 10
