In this case I think I need to really worry. Because English is vital to all other subjects too. It affects Maths, Lit, Geography, history and science. if they do not write or speak fluently the overall o level results will be affected :gloomy:
Which class is your child from? I wonder what we can do to ensure the school will focus on English too -
CCHM mum:
thanks. I understand they are going for SMO. My son is also doing SMO but not in 1GR
Hi, what is SMO?xlx:
By the way, anyone knows which classes are TA? those that are good in Science and Mathematics so they go for Talent Development?

Hi CCHM mum, I have been to the school a few times but have never heard any of the students speaking vulgarities at all. Is your child in lower or upper sec.?I have a concern about Chung Cheng students environment. It seems that there are alot of students in the school speaking hokkien vulgarities. Also the English standard is quite low in the school. Maybe this is a Chinese School and most students are better in Chinese. I do wish that they will brush up their English standards in the school. It is important to be effectively bilingual and not just too focused on Chinese language.
Another point is that alot of classes are quite rowdy. This is the feedback that I got from students from different classes.
Does your child face the same situation in school and in class? -
CCHM mum:
I wonder how many parents of chung Cheng students are in this forum. It seems that the top schools have alot of members here and their thread is always active. Does it mean that fewer Chung Cheng parents are concerned about what is happening in their child's secondary school life?
Hi, my child is in CCHS (Main) and I'm a full-time working mom. I have been receiving SMSes from the school almost everyday on matters like things to bring, what to study for the coming test and homework etc for 1JT -

Hi. My gal is in 1JT. I was told that the form teacher who is also the English teacher has been absent for 1 week. I attended the English language workshop last mth and the HOD assured the parents that their students will be able to score well in English even without tuition if they do their HM wk diligently.

Hi CCHM mum, don't worry. How is your child coping with higher mother tongue? Did your child pass the recent Chinese test? Do not worry too much, I believe the school will provide extra lessons to those students who are weaker in the subject. That's what they told us during the parents-teachers-meeting. -

Barely Coping. Secondary school seems to have alot of homework and activities. And my child lost alot of weight and is always tired. I wonder why when we are in Secondary school its like a breeze with no worries.. -

Give your child some time to adjust to the higher standard & additional subjects. -

I still dont understand what is the point of making the standard so high. In the past, I hardly study. Just doing homework with no tuition and still can score As and eventually go University. It seems that children today have to go for tuition, have extra classes in school , study till 2am etc just to score As. Not much of a life. Really feel sad for them -
I'm getting worried for my boy. He didn't do well in the recent Essay writing. Does any of your child is attending any writing class for English? I think I may need to send him for essay writing class.

Hello Pam 2013,
Dont worry too much about your son's essays. Unless he is constantly failing all his essays, he should do fine. Encourage him to read more books. The school teachers will make sure your son will do well. I was from CCHMS. -

Hello Garfieldpal, thanks for the advice. I will monitor his progress closely. I must have faith in him and the schoolPam 2013:

My kids so far is coping ok. They stay late in school (till 6.30) about 2-3 times a week. They have no problem to finish their homework and go to bed by 10pm.
Yes, Chung Cheng has too many subjects. Just too many for us parents to worry, so I keeping a watching eyes. Not only the Chinese and English. my kids also faced problem with art.
Cancel all their tution, except for Chinese. -
To be honest, art is quite a demanding subject. Make sure your child does well for art/home econs/ D&T in sec 2 as it determines the overall percentage crucial for streaming.
