Has anyone gone for this?
I had pain in my teeth when drinking cold drinks. so, paid dentist a visit & she claimed that my old filling had worn out. She redid the filling & thereafter, I've been feeling more pain on the right side of my mouth everytime I consume hot or cold drinks. When I went back to see her, she referred me to see an endodontist for root canal treatment (after having paid $260 for my first treatment :frustrated: !). I don't know if I should trust her referral anymore. The toothache is bothersome & I can't sleep unless I take panadol.
Anyone got any recommendations for a good endodontist? How much does it costs? The dentist had told me it's around $1k.

You can try Dr Timothy Sim of Simply Endodontics @ Wheelock Place. His fees to me are usually under $800, but it's been awhile (thank God) that I had to see him. He can be downright critical when it comes to unclean teeth, but his work is top-notch, and supported by the latest technologies. Highly recommended by me.Has anyone gone for this?

PS. The price of root canals depends on the complexity of the job, ie. the number of \"roots\" that have to be cleaned out. If it is a molar, it is usually quite costly. -
Tks chief!
I called them hoping to get treatment ASAP cos can't tahan the pain & can't enjoy my food for past few days! But was put on waiting list again. Seems like std queuing time is about 1-2 weeks. Mine is a pre-molar so the staff quoted me $500-$900. I read from internet that it may involve more than 1 visit & may need to do crowning. Is crowning included in the cost or extra $$?? :moneyflies:
This is the first time I've had such bad toothache. Alternative is extraction which is much cheaper. Since it's a pre-molar, shld I sacrifice it then?! :yikes:
Any advice pls?? -
anyone know roughly how much is scaling for P1 school kids, at "School Dental Services" inside Polyclinic ? TQ

Crowning is extra cost (usually between $400-$500). You should always crown after a root canal in order to protect that tooth. Otherwise, that tooth is unlike to survive very long on fillings alone.Tks chief!

Root canal treatments usually take 2-3 visits.
If you extract, then that's the end of that tooth and you will have a gap in your mouth. That will affect your bite, and neighbouring teeth might be affected due to the extra stress and greater degree of movement so they might also fail more quickly (like dominos). If you eventually want to patch up that gap, then it will cost you about $2500 for an implant operation, and on top of that, another $500 for a crown on that implant. Of course you can choose to go with dentures, but that has its own associated costs and inconveniences.
So the question is whether you should pay about $1300 now vs $3000 later. -

wah, that's for one tooth only...
I've a better idea now. you've advised more precisely than the dentist I saw. Thanks Chief! :salute: -
I just had RCT this morning... didn't manage to see Dr Sim as another endodontist is avail at earlier date.
My problematic tooth turns out to be a molar. Was quoted $1,500 for 1st treatment, 2nd visit in 2 weeks time to fill up the canals (additional $350) & 3rd one to do crowning ($800 for normal one & $1,100 for better quality crown). Totalling $2650 - $2950 to save only 1 tooth :faint:.
To add to my heartache, the endodontist said that I may be grinding my teeth while sleeping, hence a few cracks on some of the teeth (I didn't even know that!) He recommended a mouthguard or may risk having to do a few more RCTs.
BTW, he said an implant wld cost abt $5k. -
that is far too expensive.
If you want to save cost, my suggestion is, go to a GP dentist to do a temp root fill.
Probably around $100.This will alleviate the pain. Then go to Dr Timothy Sim for RCT. He is good and does not charge sky-high prices. His staff are also very professional and well-trained. You might have been ripped off at that endo clinic. -

I agree with mum02. I have done many RCTs, and none came close to the kind of prices you mentioned. Is it too late now for you to switch? I hope you have not been bullied just because you are a RCT newbiethat is far too expensive.

Suppose you consume room temperature food, does the pain persist?
