Claypot Rice
-
Don’t shoot me…I am quite the Queen of DIY when it comes to some food. I love the stuff in the claypot rice but I don’t use claypot to cook. I use the cooking pot to spin out a similar dish to claypot rice.
And actually this is my Chinese fastfood that I cook for my family on days that I want to speed up on feeding the family.
When I eat outside, the rice all tend to stick to the claypot and that gives me the feeling that it is hard to wash the pot so I wonder if they actually ever wash it totally clean… LOL sorry.
That said, I do eat out quite a bit, especially weekends. -

I do the same, ks2me...this is when I need my chinese sausage fix. At least I get to control the amount of salt and oil in it.
That said, got no \"fan chiu\" - agree it's not good for health - carcinogenic and stuff but it's very childhood for me...especially the part that thickens till almost like rice crackers...washed down with Chinese tea -
to die for loh! Literally!

I'm not. All who truly know their claypot would agree with me too. Check makansutra for example. Anyway, claypot burnt rice aren;t supposed to be charcoal black but charred.
yup...the best part of claypot rice is the charred part at the bottom...brown and crispy!! That also give claypot rice the extra fragrance!!
I think what is missing from alot of 'modern' claypot rice is the pork lard oil...that, along with dark soya sauce is good enough to make the rice really yummy!!

strange that no one recommended the Geyland Claypot Rice located at 639, Geyland Lorong 33. The claypot rice is genuinely cooked in the claypot. But going there means need to plan ahead due to the long waiting time especially during meal hours thus had not been there for a while.
