Yes, i have the templates done too, so it's easier
for you guys to print it off my post. I even have
variations for similar alphabet cards. But it is just
that i'm currently in post-op recovery & also that

have less & limited time to be on the PC.

Oh u take good care. Wish u a speedy recovery! Don't worry about it. Will wait patiently..good things are meant to wait

-
Oh boy...
Now i'm kinda nervous.

*NOTE : In all these lessons, letters of the alphabet are not introduced.*
FOR 18MTHS - 3YRS OLD
Introduction To Single Letter Sounds > Lesson 4
REVISION :
\"So far, we have learnt the sounds of these letters. Let's go
through all the letter sounds again....\"
Show sandpaper letter card /c/, /f/, /i/ and /m/.
Recap sounds learnt using the 3-period lesson.
\"This letter makes the sound... /c/.
Trace the letter slowly and while tracing, recap the object names that
have been introduced to the child/children. As usual, during the 1st prd,
show each sandpaper letter in isolation. ie. one at a time.
\"/c/ as in corn.... (trace the sandpaper letter again)... /c/ as in carrot....
(trace the sandpaper letter again)... /c/ and in cat. Now, would you like
to trace /c/?\" Invite the child/children to trace. Older children have been
observed to provide more and different words that begin with the letter
sounds introduced. I have had students who trace and offer the words
automatically just like how it's been presented, even before they are
asked or prompted to do so.
If this happens to your child/children
even if they are in the younger age range, this just goes to show that
they can make association of the letter sounds with corresponding words
that begin with the letter sounds.
Objects need not be shown during this presentation. It's optional.
Main objective is to observe and evaluate recognition of sounds with their
corresponding letter shape. Ability to also affirm understanding of proper
writing fashion of each letter. ie. top to bottom... left to right.
Continue presentation with the next sandpaper letter.
\"How about this letter?\"
\"Do you remember what sound this letter makes?\"
Show the sandpaper letter /f/.
\"This letter makes the sound /f/.\"
Show child(ren) the sandpaper letter card.
\"This is how I write /f/.\"
Show the child(ren) to use pointer and tall man
together to trace the letter..... from the curve inwards
and going down to the adjoining the stick line from top
to bottom...
\"/f/ as in fish... /f/ as in finger... /f/ as in flower... (etc)\"
\"Would you like to try?\"
Invite child(ren) to trace the sandpaper letter.
Observe that the child(ren) have developed a muscular
impression of the letter shapes & able to associate the
sounds with their corresponding letter shapes. This 1st
period also help to develop a visual impression and to
learn the correct writing direction of the letter shapes.
ie. left to right.... top to bottom.
Trace the next letter and conduct the same step as the
first 2 letter sounds/sandpaper letter cards.
\"This letter makes the letter sound /i/.\" Offer words that begin
with the letter sound /i/. ie. \"/i/ as in ink... /i/ as in insect...
/i/ as in igloo... /i/ as in iguana...\" Invite child(ren) to trace the
sandpaper letter.
Finish off with the last letter sound.
\"This letter makes the letter sound /m/. Again, offer words that
begin with the letter sound /m/. The words may not neccesarily
come from the objects that have been shown during the earlier
presentations. \"/m/ as in money... /m/ as in macaroni... /m/ as in
/m/ as in microscope... (etc)\" Invite child(ren) to trace the sand-
paper letter.
End of 1st period.
2nd period. Show me....
REVISION :
For Period 2 in the 3-Period Lesson, show all the three
sandpaper letter cards that you've introduced during
Period 1... all at the same time.
In this period, you are to observe how much of Period 1
can the child. Place all sandpaper letter cards on a mat
and ask the child(ren) to show/point to the letter card
that you ask for.
\"Can you show me the /i/?\"
\"Can you point to the card that makes the sound /c/?\"
\"Can you show me /m/?\"
\"Can you pick up the sandpaper letter that makes the
sound, /f/ and trace the letter?\"
In this period, the child is not required to say out the
letter sounds. He/She is simply encouraged to point to
them upon being prompted. The objective is to observe
if they can associate the letter sounds given to them with
its corresponding letter card.
Now for the last period in the 3-period lesson...
In this period, the child is now asked to pronounce the
letter sounds and it will also be good if the child(ren) is/are
able to provide names of objects that have begin with all the
letter sounds.
Show each sandpaper letter card in isolation in Period 3.
ie. show the cards one at a time.
You : Can you tell me what sound this letter makes?
Child : /m/.
You: Can you tell me what sound this letter makes?
Child : /c/.
You : Can you tell me what sound this letter makes?
Child : /i/.
You: Can you tell me what sound this letter makes?
Child : /f/
Conclude the lesson before putting the stuff away.
\"Today, we have (Simultaneously showing the child
the sandpaper letter)revised the letter sounds...
/c/, /f/, /i/ and /m/.\"
As always, remember that if your child(ren) did not get any
of the steps right at any point of the 3-Period lesson, please
come back to it/the lesson/the presentation... Make materials
as accessible as possible so that the child can have the
opportunity to work with them as and when the interest
sets in. This provides the avenue for child(ren) to work
on what they have learnt and explore on their own.
βEducation is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired
just by listening to words but also by experiences in the environment.β
