Sec 2 - Merchant of Venice ( the Macmillan Shakespeare series)
And lest the thread starter demand for his pound of flesh from me for sullying his thread with my inane reminiscing, my son did \"The Boy In Striped Pajamas\" in Secondary One last year. -

ChiefKiasu:

I did \"Animal Farm\" in sec 1 and \"To kill a Mockingbird\" in sec2....and guess what ......Sec 1 - Animal Farm
Sec 2 - Merchant of Venice ( the Macmillan Shakespeare series)
After sooooooo many yrs later, my gal also did \"Animal Farm \" and \"TKAM\" in sec 1 and sec2....
She said that i shd have kept all those guide bks for her....LoL -
Augmum:
Hey! I did those 2 too, although I can't remember which year I did them in. I don't like Animal Farm as I felt it was too contrived and frankly, quite boring, but TKAM deserved every bit of the Pulitzer it won. It has all the elements in there. I loved that book. Harper Lee's my idol.

I also recall \"King Solomon's Mines\". The Queen of Sheba filled many a night of my adolescent dreams
\"Macbeth\" was also somewhere in there. Somehow, I don't get Shakespeare. Can't really understand what's so good about those plays. But I'm really glad they didn't get us to do Pygmalion :rotflmao: -

It's not the melodrama that gets me in Shakespeare (nothing compared to what we get in Taiwanese serials), it's the &#^! language. Can't they just speak English? :frustrated: -
ChiefKiasu:
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: and I thought I was alone - not understanding the language. Did r&j for my o levels but guess what, I had never read r&j from the first page to the last page. Not even once. I just couldn't understand what I was reading and found it a total waste of time to read.

To kill a mocking bird is a great story. It has in some way, shaped how I think about certain things in life, a copy of it now sits on the book shelf at my parentβs place, waiting for my son to read (will be many years to wait).
