How many Chinese characters can your 2007 child write by now? I look through the P1 MOE syllabus and there is a total of about 160 characters which the child needs to be able to write (not just read) in the whole P1 year. My child’s kindy does not have Chinese tingxie and without the required discipline, I find it not easy to set aside some time each week strictly for learning how to write(and remember) Chinese characters.

Don't need to worry. The kids will learn them in P1.

last year, no balloting for (1 to 2 km).
Fairfield Methodist primary absorb all SC staying within 2 km.
but those beyond 2 km - no chance.

last year (2012) Phase 2B :-
Fairfield Methodist had places only for Singapore citizenship children - residing within 2km of the school. No balloting was conducted.

since you stay 1.4 km, you're within 2 km.
but for this year 2013, hard to say -
because the number of SC babies born in 2007 exceed those born in 2006.

Hi, you can try to borrow the Guide to choosing Sec Sch from your friends whose children took PSLE last year or previous years. Inside that book, you can see all the affiliated schools, CCA offered in Sec sch and COP for the secondary schools. That book is useful.

This book cannot be purchased. It's given free to P6 pupils when they need to select secondary schools. You may want to request from parents whose children are in Sec 1 this year to sell or give you the book.

If I didn't recall wrongly, some of the Methodist primary schools are affiliated to secondary and then to ACJC. I don't have that book to refer now. You may want to confirm with that book- Selecting Secondary Schools book. Will give u info on CCA offered by sec sch as well, just in case you decide to let your child take DSA route.

We stay in Joo Seng Road (near Aljunied) and my husband is an old boy from cedar primary school. and i am an old girl from nan hua primary school.


Seriously we would like to send our daughter to nan hua as compared to cedar, it is suppose to be a better school. but our only concern is the distance. nan hua is in clementi and thus every morning it will be travelling from east to west.

please advise!

If your child can endure 6 years of long distance travelling to and fro, you can go ahead to register your child for Nan Hua. Ultimately, the child will be sitting for PSLE 6 years down the road. A child who lives near the school has added advantage to get more sleep, resulting in a more attentive and productive child. There are other good schools around Joo Seng Road area too. Search around for a suitable one nearer to your residence, that's how I feel.

It is tiring to travel from Joo SENG to Clementi. If u drive and send her to school every morning, u will be stressed to drive with the morning traffic . If take school bus, she has to wake up very early.

It is not advisable. For me, I will simply enroll her at cedar primary.Enrolling at nan hua doesn't guarantee good result.Signing up for CCA will also be logistically difficult . The traveling time will in fact make her tired and affect her study.
It is better for your girl to have a more relaxed environment to enjoy school better. If the school standard is not up to your expectation, you can always provide additional enrichment to boast up her standard. :imcool:

Maybe try out p1, p2 in nan Hua first. When come p3, cca step in. By then if stick to nh, rent a house there. If not, seek transfer to cedar primary, or to an affiliated primary school eg: marris stellar, nearer yr place, Joo Seng (if boy) if girl, if her results are good, can seek transfer easier at p3/p4. The foundation years p1-p3 v impt. Nh sap school Chinese v strong. Cedar primary non sap, hence the big difference. For yr child to trsf from Ng to cedar (if need be 1 day), no issue. But reverse may be issue- whr Chinese is concerned.
