Try to adjust your boy’s sleeping/napping hours before he starts school e.g. restricting his afternoon nap to only 1h (so that he sleeps longer hours at night), pushing back his bedtime at night so that he wakes up later in the morning e.g. 8-9am instead of 7am or earlier. By waking up later in the morning, he should be able to stay awake until he reaches home at 3pm+.

The school buses will reach the school early as they need to fetch the students who are in the am session home after dropping the children in the pm session. The children in the pm session will gather at the assembly area when they arrive, where teachers will lead them in singing etc.

        Hi,

My boy is joining the pm session (playgroup) in Marymount starting from Term 2. He is used to afternoon nap so I am concern if this is a problem when he starts school. Anyone has experience with this?

Also, I've just checked with the school bus auntie. She mentioned the bus will be picking my boy at 10am and reach school at 11am! School only starts at 11:45am so what will they do between that time?
        Hi Princesseze

Can I check were you on waiting list earlier? How do you get yr boy to enrol in term2? I am thinking if I shd enrol my boy this year or next year (Nursery)? Reason being, I am not comfortable letting him taking school bus now.
My friend whose son is currently in Playgroup assured me that her boy is ok with the bus journey. She said if kids arrive earlier (usu 11-1115am), teachers will bring them in the enclosed playground and they have some activities like singing, rhyme reading or socialising with other kids while waiting for upper session to get up the bus. Personally I do not mind reaching school early ) so long as the the kids are safe with the teachers around. Give the kids time to settle down as well..

          Hi bebe,

I was in the queue since last year. Been waiting for half a year and finally received a call from them saying there’s a vacancy.

I was like you. Concern about him taking school bus esp when my boy is very little in build thus was thinking of starting his school only next year. But the bus auntie assured me that it will be fine. All the children on the bus are little. And they will all be safely buckled up.

I even went down to the school at 11am to see if the second session children are well taken care of between 11am to 11:45am. I observed that the teachers are there with them while waiting. Singing…

I totally feel your concern coz I’m also worried. But guess I have to let go. That’s when they learn to be independent.

By the way, I will only be starting the bus service a week after his school. Took a week leave from work to drive him to and fro to let him get used to the school before starting the school bus. And the first day on school bus, my mom will be taking with him. Hopefully everything goes well…

                Hi Bebe and Princesseze,

I was also very concerned about my child taking the school bus alone before school started in Jan this year, especially since she was born at the end of the year, and hence one of the youngest in her Pre-N class. However, after attending the 3-day orientation at the beginning of the year, I derived a lot of comfort after seeing how organized the school and the school buses are. The school bus auntie would carefully bring each child down from the school bus and hand them over to the teachers one by one. In the rare instance where teachers are absent at the front gate, the school bus auntie will personally bring the child to her class teacher in the school compound before she leaves. All the children have to wear a name tag that indicates his/her name, class, school bus number etc. During school dismissal, the teachers will bring the children to queue at the respective school bus numbers, and the school bus auntie will count the number of children to make sure every child is around before she brings them up the school bus.

Princesseze, personally I think it's better for your child to start taking the school bus from day 1 rather than you driving him there during the 1st week. This is because your child will be confused by the change after the 1st week and wonders why is it that mummy is no longer driving him there and he has to take the school bus; this will make him even more resistant towards the school bus. You could consider taking the school bus with him for 1-2 days (which was what I did during orientation), after which tell him that the school bus doesn't allow adults to board so he has to go on his own. After he boards the school bus on his own, you may wish to drive to school to peek to see how he's getting along. Your boy will most definitely cry but children adapt very quickly, especially since there are a lot of fun things to do in school. My child stopped crying in school after 3 days, and stopped crying prior to boarding the school bus after 1 week. It's tough to see them cry, but after a short while, when they know that they have to go to school no matter what, they will stop crying. 🙂

I am interested to register for 2014 Pre N class. May I know how much is their school bus fee? (2 way)

                  Thanks.

Help!! Anyone is switching their child to PM session (pre-N) please please please let me know!

My son just started his PM class this week. It is a nightmare! He cried so much and fell asleep for the past 3 days. The teacher told me he kept telling them that he’s really tired and kept on crying. I’ve tried to reshuffle his sleeping time but it didn’t help. He still wakes up at 7am in the morning and by the time school starts at 11:45am he’s feeling sleepy already.

Sigh…Any mommies looking to switch please let me know.

                    Appreciate it.

Hi are there any SAHM here with toddlers/babies of similar age who would like play dates when there is no school?. Or would just want to have lunch. My older son is in the morning session and 30 months and the younger one is 9months old.
