Also depend on the child. If my child is the type who is a bit slow learner in grasping or understanding concepts, I will prefer him to go to an affliated primary school. Having some form of "insurance" gives the parent & the child the confidence & a peace of mind, for the next 10 years from p1 to "o" level. I do not want him to struggle so much for Psle, bec p4-p6 is like a pressure pot if there is no "backup" secondary school behind the scene.

However if the child is those self motivated type, eg: if you plan out a daily routine & he follow closely when guided, & he’s a fast learner, I may consider a non affliated primary school. Bec p4-p6, the child must work really doubly hard. PArents must also provide strong support, behind the scene. By k2, parents can roughly tell how the child is, academically. Kindergarten teachers or enrichment centre teachers will feedback.

Hi all, my dd is due for registration in p1 in 2016 and I’ve been silently reading the various threads for months now. We’ve made some decisions based on what I’ve read and I’d like to confirm our assumptions.

Although the girls in my family, sister, mom, aunties have all gone to one of the chij schools, my wife did not and therefore phase 2a doesn’t apply.

We are Catholics so we should fall under phase 2b and we are planning to move to hougang, within 1km of chij oln, later this year so our chances of getting in should be better. There is no need for pv.

We are enrolling our dd into nativity kindergarten for k1 next year.

We are hoping these factors will be key in getting dd into oln. Are our assumptions correct? Do we or can we do any more to increase dd chances of getting into oln?

CHIJ OLN has no history of balloting in Phase 2B for the last 6 years. So your plans should have a very high chance of succeeding, unless MOE changes the rules.

              Gabdad09,

              for Phase 2B -
CHIJ OLN no need to ballot, for past 6 years.

they're all in white boxes, if you check past 6 years (from 2006 to 2012).
so go for it, brother !

                St Andrew's Junior :-

if you're a Phase 2B Parent Volunteer and stay less than 2km, should be quite safe. Because balloting only occurred for those staying beyond 2 km.
Refer to Green boxes, for past 3 years' trend (from 2010 to 2012) :-

Does this mean that even if you have done your PV with the school, still need to ballot for those staying more that 2 km?
Sorry need to ask as I'm a newbie to all this and very worried for my son.

PV doesnt guarantee anything. It just let you register under 2B.

If number of pupil register exceed, then ballot is required.

Sometimes, PV get to register but dun even get chance to ballot…

Thanks for all your replies. The best situation will be Ai Tong as first choice and Kuo Chuan Pri School as backup. I stand better chance if I am 1km to Ai Tong but will be more than 2km to KCPS. How to do this in a win win way??? If I move now 1km to Ai Tong if I don’t get balloted to do PV? Then I will have to bet on getting a letter from Hokkien Huay Kuan which is also not guaranteed!

Ok I am free to uproot to any part of Singapore. If u were me, which decent co-ed school will you choose?

All MOE schools are decent schools.
