Our family, incl my 66 yr old mom, my husband, 6 yr old son and my sis family, incl 3 teenage daughters, 16, 15 & 13 were at one of the Sibu kelong during the Sep holidays. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the thread of discussion before setting off. My hubby heard abt the place fm one of his friends. As what Super dad put it, it was really good fun and cheap too! Actually we didn’t know what to expect, so only bought a cheap cheap fishing rod. We were really suprised at how easy it was to ‘catch’ fish there and how fun fishing and kelong stay can be. My son wanted to go back again, my mom too. I thought the facilities there was rather basic and wonder which of the Sibu kelong is more ‘luxurious’. Super dad & others any recommendations?? -
I’m interested in going to kelong one of these days. However, transport is always a problem for me. If anyone is going and don’t mind us tacking along, please let me know. Many thanks!

My fren told me that Ah Nan (kelong) is better in terms of facilities. Can anyone confirm?

The kelong (forgot name now) give us contact of mini van which charge M$300 both ways fm our hse in Bt Timah. to mersing port It is rather ‘expensive’ but it was stress free.

How many people can the mini van take? We only have 2 people here. None of my friends want to go because they worried their kids can’t take the army type of accomodation. So, if anyone is planning a trip and have vacancy in their van, please let me know. We will go if our schedule permits. Thanks!

The Van can take 10 person. Maybe you want to consider taking cab? Actually, for us, the kids (6, 13, 15 & 16) didn't mind the lodging & facilities at all. It was me (used to be kampong kid) :oops: who did not really like the facilities but we had great fun, anyway. -
Yes, my child and I do not mind outdoors and sweaty activities. We always think we are the rare species as most people that I know tend to like travelling to Japan, HK etc.
Thanks for the recommendation, but don’t feel safe on a cab for just 2 of us to a foreign country… My boy only 7, so can’t even protect me

Hi Superdad,This is one activity that will be an eye opener for city kids. There, they will experience simple and basic living conditions, get close to nature and have a good time making a nuisance of themselves. I have seen dolphins, leatherback turtles, as well as all kinds of fishes.
The best kelong visit is at Sibu Kelongs. There are 4 there, all having more or less the same thing. 2D/1N is at $69 per pax. Children is $38 per head. Food all provided. Ample fresh water and bathing/toilet facilities.
Bookings can be done anytime, as long as there is space on the kelong. It usually is, unless there is a holiday. You can usually call the day before, and someone will pick you up at the Jetty. The numbers are

Easy to drive there, and safe parking. The boarding point is Tanjong Leman Jetty. The normal timings are to get to the Jetty (somehow) at 9-9.30am. Boat will pick you and bring you over the kelong. The boat trip is a 30 mins ride. The next day, you will return to the Jetty after final lunch at the Kelong at around 12-1pm. From there, the drive back to Singapore is about 2-3 hours.
Therefore, a very doable activity over the weekend. Go Sat and be back Sun 4-5pm for resting till work and school the next day.

I remembered reading about it here and would love to join you for a kelong trip this coming hols! Any plan to organise one?
Incidentally, I am also following up to get a community club to organise a one-day tour to Malaysia which includes : Visit Fruit Farm, petting zoo, herbal/veg garden, 1 lunch, 1 dinner plus Fireflies excursion. Originally, just me and another family (11pax) were enquiring from the agency - they quoted us $68 per pax. Then later, my friend has more parents interested. So hopefully can reach 44pax to get to charter a coach instead. Thought I just post here in case anyone is interested to join us.
