Does anyone know how Marymount compares to OLGC in terms of 'standard', facilities, teachers, CCAs, etc? Appr any insider view that I won't be able to discern from the schools' websites. TIA!

Lucky gals indeed!!!! For St Nick's, there was 1 yr that no balloting required even for Phase 2B - I think in 2009. After that year (esp 2012) it was quite madness...

I'm from one of the IJ schools but my Alma Mater is too far from my home. St Nick's is my 1st choice but looking at the balloting rate and we're abt 2km away - it's much too risky. Correct?

In 2009, there was no balloting for those living within 1km. After that, it was crazy even for citizens living within 1km. 31 applicants for 18 seats in 2012.

You cannot even get to ballot at St Nicks if you live outside 1km.

If you don't want to risk it at all, Marymount Convent at Phase 2B or 2C is a shoo-in. Even OLGC, OLQP, OLN, Katong are quite risk free at Phase 2B. CHIJ TP will ballot within 2km for Phase 2B and within 1km for Phase 2C.

I have been reading through earlier pages of this thread and since all IJ schools are pretty much the same (except SNGS), I tried to check the affliation COP to see if it’s really worthwhile to travel and was shocked to see that the cut-off for IJ Toa Payoh is 242 without affliation. Have they gone the same way as SJI now? I remember in my days, it wasnt a very competitive school, just one of the good school.

CHIJ TP is better than the other IJ schools. It is only slightly lower than SNGS but definitely of higher standard than the rest. That’s why I told you it was a waste to abandon CHIJ TP for OLN…

the cut off for IJ TP has been raised to 220 with immediate effect...it is good bcos the standard is maintained, this made me push daughter a little to meet that...although she is in p3, it is never too early.

st nic is sap school...my daughter is struggling with her normal chinese as it is...the 听写/默写 is somewhat similar to son's when he was in sap primary then.

You mean 220 with affliation? I saw on the school's website it's 200 but IJ TP must be the first choice. The COP in 2013 for 2012 PSLE without affliation is 242. That means now only 20pts advantage unless they up the COP again next year  I was thinking 40pts advantage die-die must go. Otherwise based on this forum's ranking, index of 2 (TP) vs. 1.6 (OLN) is not that big a push.

Yes, 220 with affiliation and must be placed as 1st choice. Don't think the cop will be increased again...bcos it was JUST increased with immediate effect for last year's PSLE students.

Sorry, IJ OLQP is not affiliated to St Nic.
OLQP is only affiliated to its CHIJ St Theresa Convent Sec Sch.

As mentioned before in earlier posts, for Phase 2A alumni registrations, those who have attended any CHIJ primary schools (OLQP, OLN, OLGC, Katong, Kellock, TP, St Nick's) can only apply their gals in their own primary schools.

EDIT: Ladies who went to other schools / convents but attended CHIJ St Nicholas Secondary (full school) are the only lucky ones who can apply their gals for CHIJ St Nicholas Primary without attending the primary section themselves.

ie. if you were fr OLQP, your gal can only go to OLQP at Phase 2A (alumni).

If you really want to try at CHIJ St Nicholas, you have to be within 1km of the school. If you do live within 1km of St Nick's, you can only try at Phase 2B if you are Catholic (since it's too late for you to volunteer now) or Phase 2C if you are not Catholic.

It is a very risky undertaking for any of these phases.

So if you don't live within 1km of St Nicholas, go to Marymount. If you still like CHIJ family better, then try CHIJ OLGC at Serangoon Gardens (go via AMK Ave 1). Not that far from St Nick's area.

OLGC is easier to get in and in 2012, all citizens got in at Phase 2C regardless of distance.
