Yup.. can anyone explain why huh?
Hi Dyh,dyh:
Top 15: Higher Distinction
Top 16 to 50: Distinction
Top 51 to 120: Credit
Just wonder how do u get this info ? Can't see this in the website.
I am still puzzle with interpreting the result ..
Say if a student's result is 90% , does it mean that he is the top 90% as compared with his peers taking the same result?
Say, out of 3000 children, he shd be at 300th position right?
IF this is correct, then he shd not be awarded a Credit cert, right ?
But there is a child with < 85% but still can get Credit. Why so hu
Anyway can help to explain? :? -

There are 2 lists, one under Junior and the other under Open. About 30 Toppers each list. -

Yup.. can anyone explain why huh?[/quote]the only explanation i can think of is that many kids have the same score. After all, there are only 20 questions and all multi choice. so it is very possible to have a few hundred kids getting the credit award because they are all ranked 120th.

Thanks dagong99. I know there are 2 lists. I am responding to the earlier posts mentioning that cat high is found in open category and st hilda, acs are not found anywhere.PiggyLalala:

Yup, i also think so and probably the spread between the scores maybe wide too, say maybe about 45 in the 90 percentile, next 60 in 80 percentile, so that it's possible for < 96% to get Distinction & < 85% to get Credit

this still does not explain why some who got 98+% are not in the top 30+ list? I still think the sample size is around 3000. More likely to be due to too many identical scores. -
dyh:
Hi dyh, yup if there are pupils who got 98 percentile and not in the top 30, then the sample size is unlikely to be around 500.

However yr explanation of identical score would also depend on how they rank the pupils. For example, the top 4 scores are 95%, 94%, 94% and 93%.
The pupil who scored 95% would be ranked 1st, the 2 with 94 would be ranked 2nd, then what about the student with 93%, would the child be ranked 3rd or 4th? If 4th, then the top 150 scorers can only be matched with ard 150- 200 pupils. Am i right to say that? In that case, it would not explain the percentile. Hope I am talking sense.
