I believe only the schools will have a holiday on the following Monday if the Sat is a P. Holiday, and not all govt-related org. The rest probably gets a day credited to their annual leave.

Good for some.. flexible Off day instead of common \"squeeze with everyone\" holiday..

My company gives flexible off-day that should be taken within 6 months.

            No more auto LWE!!

Lol. I'm sure many share your sentiments.

I wonder how these dates are set by the Hindu council. Do they observe the moon cycles?

Yes, sort of. My half baked observation is Deepavali falls a day before the New moon day of the month Aipasi of the Tamil calendar .It gets a little complicated as the new moon starts at a specific time . So someone makes a call to say which day ...

April 14th is the Tamil New Year Day ( It always falls on 14th or 15th of April - mostly on the 14th). So the official calander is computed before this. As such, the exact dates of festivals are released closer to this date.

I do wonder why? Come on , we have far more computation capabilities than to wait and watch, and if it can be done in April it could have been done 6 months ago too

if you have time to kill, go ahead and read this ...

Is Sat a working day for your company? If it is a working day for most (and not for you), then i think indeed you lugi/suay...

But if it's a non-working day for your whole company, maybe you can call up MOM to check whether is your company infringing any law... i somehow think they are...

I think your company is obligated to either credit one day to your annual leave, or allow you to take one day off-in-lieu of the PH or compensate in $. See below, extracted from AsiaOne News, 10 April 2013.

PAYMENT FOR WORK DONE ON A PUBLIC HOLIDAY
The Ministry would like to remind all employers that under the Employment Act, an employee who is required to work on a public holiday is entitled to an extra day's salary at the basic rate of pay, in addition to the gross rate of pay for that holiday. The employer and employee may mutually agree to substitute a public holiday for any other day.

                  PUBLIC HOLIDAYS ON SATURDAYS
For public holidays falling on Saturdays, an employee who is not required to work on Saturdays is entitled to claim a day off or compensation in lieu for that public holiday, if the employee is covered under the Employment Act.

Just that a number of KSP parents are probably not covered..

                        coz earn too much..
