Where to find a good English tutor?

Tried that before. It’s more like a fun class. Good for keep the interest in learning though. Don’t gain anything much out of it so I won’t recommend it.

I sent my boy there for PSLE prep class last year. Did not teach much or learn much. Indeed interesting but not value for money.

Didn't try Sec 1 but primary school all the way up to P6 is a fun and interesting class.

DD was with British Council in K1-P2. Agree it is a fun class but the style of teaching is not suitable for her. She needs a more structured form of teaching, hence not able to see progress.

No tuition in English for now. Key weakness is essay writing and comprehension which is due more to her being too lazy to practice/write. Thus far, it had been compensated by near perfect score in MCQs as we had always been ahead of syllabus by around 2 years since p3/p4. But am quite certain this will come back to bite her as she progresses up the level.

Started her on Science tuition and turned out the kids are "friends of friends" and she is now keen to attend the Maths session too as it is more like a social gathering.

Sec 1 English is different...I'm hands off. Comprehension and composition :siam:

For math, tutor is doing slightly advanced stuff...school teacher follows the text. Just had first oral for Chinese...he did struggle a little...told me teacher prompted by asking questions during the oral. Tests this week plus mid-year exam preparation...so he was stressed last weekend.

It’s always a problem when kids attend tuition classes because of friends. These "social gatherings" were always a bad thing for my DS who’s already lacking in concentration. So I will do only 1-1 tuition now.

My DS also not having tuition for EL now. Will just let it be. Was asking for a friend though. Wanted DS to have Science tuition 'cos I don’t really want to study Sec Sci again but he doesn’t want to. So for now I’m still his Sci tutor. Sigh…
Today came home with a surprise mini sci test paper. Got 11/15. I’m happy enough. Happier if I don’t have to study though.

She does not really need the tuition but between her doing nothing at home (spoiling the relationship in the process of nagging her to do work) and her attending tuition, attending tuition seems like a better alternative. Tutor is good and fees very reasonable so the decision is easier.

As she is very idle, I put her through a lot of activities so that she does not spend time on Facebook, whatsapp with the friends. Everyone is someone’s friend, social circle suddenly becomes very wide. Anticipate it to be wider next year when even the juniors from primary school get into secondary school.
