Manuka Honey

Considering the hefty price to pay, it is such a shame that most of this excellent honey are packaged in PLASTIC containers! Anyone knows of any brand of Manuka honey that comes in glass bottles?

The Non Peroxide Activity level of a Manuka honey determine how strong and potent of the Manuka honey at fighting bacterial infections and inflammations. Hence, a rating has been introduced to determine the therapeutic potency of Manuka honey. It is generally accepted that Manuka honey with a NPA rating of 10 or above is appropriate for therapeutic use. The higher the rating, the higher its therapeutic properties.

So if you are taking manuka honey for therapeutic use, you should consume those with at least NPA 10+. Hope this helps.

Hi, just to share… there are only a handful of Manuka honey suppliers in NZ… they sold the honey in barrels, in tons, to different brands, those so called manufacturers to package and market… most of the familiar brands in the market are sourcing their honey from the same supplier. There isn’t really much difference, really.


UMF 15+ and above are not allowed to export by the NZ authority. If you see UMF 25+ selling outside NZ, that’s probably a bluff, or smuggled.

I bought Blue Hills (Tasmanian) UMF25+ for $51+ (50ml bottle) from the food festival @ Expo last year (there was a 20% discount). Thought I got a good deal.

This is not the brand of Manuka Honey I usually get though.

Hubby is going to Sydney for business trip next week, thinking of asking him to buy Manuka honey. I usually purchase 'Woodlands brand' UMF 15+ from guardian pharmacy but I find the price rocketing last few years. Trying to cut cost a bit, can anyone advise which brand of Manuka honey from Australia is good for primary school kids? I would like to buy at least UMF 15++.

Is UMF label unique to New Zealand and Australia is more active something, true?

I normally buy the brand Super Bee when I am in Australia. It is available here but cheaper when buying there.

Wah this is interesting! For a starter like me, do you think that i should start the eu yan sang Manuka Honey Total Activity 15+ since it was given to me as a gift? Do i need to avoid anything while consuming this product?

I've been giving kids manuka honey UMF 10+ to 15+ since they were todds. A tablespoon neat when they complain of sore throat or as a drink with lunch or dinner. However, lately, DS has been rejecting the honey saying that he gets a tummy ache after he drinks it. Other honey he is fine but Manuka honey gives him a tummy ache.
