Maybe it will be good too if you check what kind of mistake she made in the CA1 Maths and Science and go through the mistakes with her.

Is your daughter's school a top primary school? If it is, I think you don't have to worry so much as the standard should be higher than neighbourhood schools.
The interesting thing about dd is that she knows her mistake. She has been \"trained\" to check and check. She self-improvise checking techniques during P5 so she was able to do fairly well. But this apparently seem to be lacking in P6....She gives me a feeling that she thinks she is \"good enough\" when she is not... So it's worrying for me that she knows what works for her but is not doing it.. šŸ˜“ There was once that she did \"badly\" in P2 due complacency. Her CL teacher told me that she cried upon seeing her results (well... much better than my P2 dd who didn't feel anything about her poor performance :slapshead: .) Since then, dd 1 really put in effort and we always relate to that feeling that she experienced. Eg. do you want to feel happy/ sad after you received your results??? So I am really hoping CA1 is a good wake up call for her as it's still \"early\".

She is in a SAP school. She is in top 3 classes so we are comparing her performance with her class average scores to make the call of her performance/ paper std given. With the same group of classmates since P5, she was able to surpass last year's average but not this year...

Secretly I am worried. If she does badly again in SA1, will her confidence take a hit. Unfortunately, I am those who don't \"sugar coat\" my feedback to her so far as I always feel that by being transparent, I am truly helping her. So yes... I am self-reflecting now

My son's problem is time management. He does things very slowly. So, I usually race with him e.g. who can finish faster; he doing his Maths homework or me ironing clothes? He likes this kind of game :rotflmao: Sometimes he will criticize my ironing quality so that he would have more time for his homework šŸ˜† I would play along with him šŸ˜‰

Mine oso the same... suuuuper slow, and worse, dun like us to rush him. he's super \"cool\" and \"laid-back\", no amount of coaxing, motivating, nagging can rush him. I am FTWM so no time to \"monitor\" him during the day. His \"time-wasting\" tactics supersede any of us. I feel if he has done his work faster, he will have more time for other revision, but he is not motivated.

Best, he told me, cannot stress him, too stress will not perform well during exams... ya... he \"not\" stress oso nvr perform so well...

I measured my heart beat and it averaged 80-90's at resting position! I am scared I will get heart attack! :yikes:

Normal heart beat is 70 per min. If you are getting 90 now, what will it be in Aug? :nailbite:

Yes I cannot imagine come August & Sept, that is why I exercise more these days and try to take it easy with P3 DS!

No good ideas from my end.... With the kids, we always talk about what they want to pursue for secondary school. Eg. if you want to continue with this cca, you better make it to this school so that you can continue your passion. That is our \"motivation\" talk all the time....

In any case, pls do not spend lots of $$$ and send them to those motivation programs now.... See how :moneyflies: for 2 of my nephews.

                  this is a tough one..

Not that mine is working well. I use a mix - solid work 1 hour - free rest time 1/2 hour; complete bef time - free time; hit target - treat/outing; sit w child and do my own work or at times do the same paper; praise/nag/scold; get same age kids to do work together (my neighbours kids give me a WIDE BERTH when my kid is doing homework šŸ˜† )

My son doesn't even know which school he wants to go. He's not taking any CCA now and not really keen on any CCA.

My son has tuition. Whenever his tutor is here, he can sit down and do his work. When his tutor teaches him, he can listen. But he cannot sit down by himself and do his own work. šŸ˜“

As I am a FTWM, I don't have much time to sit together with him while he does his work as sometimes I get home pretty late he needs to get ready to sleep. My daughter didn't have this problem before. She was able to complete the work that I've assigned her in the afternoon.

Getting friends/neighbour kids to work together with him doesn't help as they will end up talking and playing.

Do you mean he dropped his CCA this year or never have one.

                        Hi weatherbee,

Maybe boys are naturally more challenging as compared to girls.

I am also a FTWM. Just sharing some ideas and not sure if it works in your case. I get my P5 and p6 to complete their school homework in the afternoon. This can be a challenge on days they have to stay back but they have to try to complete. Night time is reserved for revision/ top school papers, etc....

They used to watch tv shows in the afternoon. They stopped doing that this year.... after we \"imposed a fine\" for watching tv. They are \"rules\" abidding as I've spies (pils and maid) at home and I mean what I say when I impose a fine... so dun play play šŸ˜‰ No computer games either. They can use the computer for school work only. Phone games/ whatsapp are monitored. If they lack self-control, we will withdraw the benefits so the choice is theirs. Eg. my dd has so many whatsapp msgs/ spams.... think her friends spend time spamming each other.... They are supposed to hand over their hp to us at night. So I would \"check\" to observe their activity level.

We try to be home by latest 8pm so that we can spend the next 2 hours with them. Sometimes I've unfinished stuff or I've telecons at night (I usually request for calls to be made after 10pm). I would do my work together with them in the same room. On nights when I've calls, I get dh to sit in the room. Even if we are doing something else in the room (eg. playing with hp games), so long as our presence is felt, that is enough. This is like our commitment to be there. We started this 5 years ago and we had to be discipline to enforce it. That's why I love school hols.... as it's finally break time for us.

When we are not in the same room, the kids tend to chit chat with each other.... We do not have \"perfect\" or self-motivated kids who know what they want and work hard for it so through these actions, we hope that we are creating an environment to steer them to the right direction.
