2)1) Lydia spent $1735 on a television set. She spent 1/4 of the remaining money on a camera and still had 1/3 of her money left. How much money did Lydia spend altogether?
2) Dylan and Richard went shopping with $340 and $545 respectively. Dylan spent twice as much money as Richard. After shopping, the amount of money Richard had left was twice the amount of money Dylan had left. How much money did Dylan spend?
Dylan -> 340 - 2u -> 1p
Richard -> 545 - 1u -> 2p
680 - 4u = 545 - 1u
3u -> 680 - 545 = 135
1u -> 45
Dylan spent 2u (2 x 45) = $90 -
3) Danny’s key chains was 5/6 of Pamela’s key chains at first. Pamela gave 3/10 of her key chains to Danny. Danny then gave 1/4 of his key chains to Pamela. In the end, Danny had 32 fewer key chains than Pamela. How many key chains did Pamela have at first?
4) Lina bought a box of jigsaw puzzle. She fitted 2/7 of the pieces of the puzzle on the first day. On the second day, she fitted another 120 pieces of the puzzle. As a result, the number of the fitted pieces was 10/11 of the number of the unfitted pieces. How many pieces did the jigsaw puzzle consist of? -

At first,3) Danny's key chains was 5/6 of Pamela's key chains at first. Pamela gave 3/10 of her key chains to Danny. Danny then gave 1/4 of his key chains to Pamela. In the end, Danny had 32 fewer key chains than Pamela. How many key chains did Pamela have at first?
Danny's key chains --> 50 units
Pamela's key chains --> 60 units
Pamela gave 3/10 x 60 units = 18 units to Danny
Danny's key chains --> 50 units + 18 units = 68 units
Pamela's key chains --> 60 units - 18 units = 42 units
Danny gave 1/4 x 68 units = 17 units to Pamela
Danny's key chains --> 68 units - 17 units = 51 units
Pamela's key chains --> 42 units + 17 units = 59 units
Pamela had 32 key chains more than Danny
8 units --> 32, 1 unit --> 4
At first, Pamela's key chains --> 60 x 4 = 240

at first, fitted : unfitted --> 2 : 5 --> 6u : 15u -- total 21u
in the end, fitted : unfitted --> 10u : 11u -- total 21u
on 2nd day, 10u - 6u = 4u of puzzle pieces were fitted
4u --> 120, 1u --> 30
total number of pieces --> 21 x 30 = 630

Mrs Tan bought 25 soccer balls and basketballs for $1740. Each soccerball costs $84 and each basketball costs $48. How many of each type of balls did Mrs Tan buy?
I normally solve this using Algebra and simultaneous equations/substitution method. But my daughter is very resistant and refuses to use this method of solving such questions as she says the school haven’t taught Algebra and this method of solving.
Are there other ways of solving this tupe of questions using model/heuristics method that a pri 5 student would understand besides using Algebra?
If I hv no choice but to use Algebra, are there any good books/assessment books that somebody can recommend so I can use to teach her or introduce her to the idea of Algebra?

Assuming all the balls are basketball -> 25 x $48 = $1200
Difference in the total amount -> $1740 - $1200 = $540
Difference in price between soccerball and basketball -> $84 - $48 = $36
No of soccerball -> $540 / $36 = 15
No of basketball -> 25 - 15 = 10 -
