      Hi parents,

As much as we all hope to get our children into a affliated school so that they can \"safe guard\" a place in the secondary with the lower PSLE aggregate cutoff point. I was thinking if this minimum PSLE cutoff point a lot of difference compared to the children who got in without affliation?

can someone give me a example of \"what is the usual minimum cutoff points for affliation\" & what is the normal cutoff points to get into the secondary school?

is it really that important to put our children in a affliated school?
appreciate your inputs here so to help us parents to choose a school for our kids.... πŸ™‚ thank you.

cut off point for affiliation may change over the years

SCGS = going up every year or so it planned to be, going into IP school soon

NYPS to NYGH = minimum 250 for affiliation, without affiliation it is 262 thereabout

You can go to MOE's http://app.sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/index.asp and search for any secondary schools with affiliation.

The COP for affiliation and non-affiliation will be shown near the bottom of the search result.

You can find the info of affiliation vs non-affiliation COP in the PSLE school selection booklet MOE / sch will give out to all PSLE P6 students at later part of the year - usually around Oct. Different sch differs - some will have a wide gap vs others who has a narrow gap (eg. SJI affiliation vs non-affiliation difference is only 3 points). You can also check out this info in MOE sec sch info.

Those with limited places, maybe due to IP program for example, will imposed higher COP

That too, but probably to a lesser extent coz ACSI's affiliation COP has been 235 fro a long time if I'm not wrong.

Someone shared that it will be a waste if I do not register my child in a school that is affiliated to secondary school. She said that many parents had headache thinking which schools to send their children to after release of PSLE results. Now, do you think it’s important to get an affiliated school?

It’s only a waste if the affiliated secondary school is one of the top schools and has IP track etc.

No point sending to a primary school with a mediocre affiliated secondary school rite?

If he/she does better than expected, the parents will want him/her to go to schools such as RI / RGS etc. Affiliated sec only means lesser stress at PSLE for those who are not too outstanding.
