Hey julongmum, calypo, once again thanks for the info. It would be a great relief if both projects can pass through and carried out ASAP to benefit the students both from NHHS and NUSHS.
I did notice on the side gate, however, there is the road divider in between the 2 way traffic, students across the road can't simply access to it. Will find out more fr the sch in near future.
btw, does yr bro carry tablet to sch? what's yr view abt the tablet program?
No worries; glad to be of help. Oh my brother didn't use the Tablet PC because it was only introduced around 3 years ago for Sec 1 students.
Admittably, I don't see any difference between the grades of students with Tablet PCs and those who don't. Getting the Tablet PC is a new education initiative to get students affiliated with the use of IT in lessons and in my opinion, probably to gear them up for future use of laptops in Universities. Based on what you've said, since only 3 out of 11 classes are using the Tablet PCs and it is not made compulsory by the school, I don't think it is necessary to get one. The first reason is because the Tablet PC may become a distraction for students in school or during lessons. Moreover, it is an added responsibility for the child to take care of their belongings because there is a risk of losing the Tablet PC in school. One will also need to supervise the child closely in relation to the dangers of the Internet and PC gaming.
Of course, there are benefits to the situation, in that the Tablet PC opens new avenues in which teachers can teach lessons to garner the students' interest in the subject. Admittably, the lessons are really interesting with the use of Tablet PC as I've seen it before. It also builds up the students' IT capabilities; although by now, I believe every Gen Y kid is already more than familiar with computers and Internet.
Overall, I am not really a Tablet PC advocate as I don't see it as a necessity for students at this Sec Sch stage. Nonetheless, it's a good initiative by MOE/NHHS to open up newer teaching pedagogies and inject vibrancy into the education system. I think it will be best to express your concerns to the sch staff and see whether if there are policies in place to address your concerns. Lastly, checking with other parents in the Parents' Support Group (PSG) for their opinion will also help one to make the right decision. -

Regarding the road dividing fence, it was only built recently to discourage students from jaywalking/cutting across the road; although some still cross the road in the area(s) before the road dividing fence due to convenience... -

Thanks ! 249 plus 2.

My dd also get 249 plus 2 and RV was the 1st choice, but she was posted to Nan Hua, we are apealing but still on wait list, wondering why??? Is yr dd some student leader or good ECAs record? -

What I can think of, is the many decimal points to make up your dd 251 and justsay's dd 251. Posting to sec school is purley by T scores and nothing else. But unless RV is so popular choice that they have filled up the all vacancies, if not, you should stand a high chance. I still would suggest you call up the school, keep pastering, keep trying ...Justsay

Hi Whitely,
Our very helpful and kind Daisyt has replied you on your query and also in the RV thread. However, I understand how you and your daughter feel. My daughter cried when she received her PSLE result. She was expecting much better result. She wanted to get in RV so much and first thing that came to her mind was there's no hope. Her dream shattered. It was a real pleasant surprise for us that she got in. Nan Hua was her second choice too. During the selection process, I got to understand each school better. I must say in my opinion, Nan Hua is also a very good school. I would be very happy too if my daughter get into Nan Hua. They have all the good programs and produce excellent O level results. Well behaved students and niche in performing arts. The only difference is that RV is IP. You never know, good news is already on its way. It would be nice if your daughter's wish could be gratned. We are all with you. Good luck ! -

Hi
I guess we have done what we can and shall leave the rest to nature. Shall keep you all posted if we really get in RV. Many thanks for all your well wishes and advice! -
Hi Whitely,
My dd is also in NH. It was our 2nd choice and 1st at RV. I persuded my dd to send in appeal at RV but she decided to stay with NH, we respected her decision as we also agreed that NH is a very good sch. Like mentioned by Diasyt on her earlier post that the main difference is that RV is on IP, NH also nutures good students in both character and academic. So whatever the outcome of yr appeal, yr child would be settled in either good sch. -

Thank for yr advice. We actually thought of without going thru 'O' level exam will eliminate the unecessary exam stress, so we wanted to place dd in RV which is IP but seem like things are not going our way, perhaps nature has decided what is the best for her, anyway, dd is also happy with NH and already making new friends in her class. -
My dd's case very similar to justsay and julongmum. RV was her 2nd choice. She was very very close to get into her first choice but the bad news shattered her dream. I even try to comfort her, she could do well in year 1 and we tried to transfer her to her 1st choice. However, after the 1st week in RV, she fell in love with the school that she dropped the idea of transferring. She even told me, she promised to do well in RV, to make RV proud.
