Wondering if your Sec 1 child mentioned to you that Sec 1 is even twice as challenging than the last PSLE they took last year? I'm surprised that my DS told me that.Kids who sat for PSLE last year are in sec 1 now...busy with new environment, tougher subjects and unpredictable hours.
Last year's PSLE was tough...being dragon year...this year may not be as crazy. Cop will probably be reduced. This mid year is the first exam. Hope our kids are confident and do well. All the best :rahrah:
Hubby just told me about this talk about PSLE described as a high stakes exam. It IS !!! Honestly, it's ridiculous to make kids be aware how important PSLE is. Most are 11 or 12...what do they know? It's more stressful for us parents when kids are not the least worried. We spend a lot of money on tuition to make sure they are ready...bcos getting past year paper done one set after another is just to expose them to different format/questions. Answers are sometimes not explained...then when they face another school exam with similar type of questions, answers are wrong again. Is this the 'technique' schools adopt to prepare their students for PSLE??? -
It's a different kind of challenge this year...he does whine about the frequent as well as surprise tests and loads of Math homework...however he finds secondary school life and teachers better than primary school. He enjoys his CCA. This year, I can 'taiji' more stuff to hubby...like math, science, Geog and art  The focus is shifted to younger one.

Anyone got any feedback on Mind Edge? Someone told me it helps to motivate kids to do better, like achieve more????
MindEdge & Adam Khoo might not work on everyone. It has to depend on your kid too as it takes 2 hands to clap. The kid must be a willing partner. It seems to work on my nephew. My brother sent his son to MindEdge last year when he was in P5. According to my mum, the boy is more positive now. Preferably go when the child is in P5, the programme stretches for half a year. -

Nutty mum:
Maybe due to more tests, projects & subjects to handle. My boy did mention that Sec 1 is much busier than P6. However, work load may vary from schools to schools. Sec 1 is definitely not a bed of roses. P6 hectic schedule not only prepared them for PSLE but also mentally prepare them for Sec 1.

Hectic schedule from last year’s PSLE preparation did make my son more resilient. But everything is different in secondary school…teachers do not spoon feed and treat them as young adults.

But which employer will ask for the PSLE result?Kids who sat for PSLE last year are in sec 1 now...busy with new environment, tougher subjects and unpredictable hours.

The drilling just to sit for this high stakes exam at 12 years old is silly…when kids go to secondary school, PSLE results is history. Employers ask for O level results or A level/Poly results.
PSLE is still required bcos of secondary school admission…but I feel that it should not be so tough. The nightmare from last year’s horrendous drilling will be unforgettable. -

Revision and drilling are necessary for any major exams. But 'horrendous drilling' could be counter productive and would not produce the optimal results. Worse, it may kill the child's interest in learning. PSLE score itself is not that important other than Sec school admission, but strong foundation, good learning attitude and study habits are important and it is better to start young rather than waiting till O Level or A Level. The drilling just to sit for this high stakes exam at 12 years old is silly...when kids go to secondary school, PSLE results is history.
