Not sure if any of you have this strange feeling. When we go overseas for a period of time, when we come back, local food will come to mind.

Recently, when we came back from the holidays...first thing came to my dh's mind for the first meal in SG was chicken rice.

Then I suggested Pow Sing at Serangoon Gardens and off we went.

No regrets, had a satisfying meal with half a white chicken plus the fried fritter with mayo, sambal squid(super spicy, burnt my tongue yet so shiok!!), claypot mushrooms, fish maw/fishball soup and rounded off with mango pudding and chendol.

Wah..it was like Godsend after living on non-local food for a prolonged period.

So where do you typically go for your CHICKEN RICE?

      ************************************************************
Ok now I need to consolidate the chix rice place for chix rice lovers convenience. Thank you all for your contribution.

      1. Pow Sing at Serangoon Gardens + corner coffee shop(branch of PS)
      2. Margaret Drive hawker centre level 2, next to shanghai dumpling stall
      3. Coffee shop opposite Eastshore Hospital
      4. Swee Kee at Purvis
      5. Nam Kee at Upper Thomson
      6. Wee Nam Kee Opp Novena Sq?
      7. Yet Con at Purvis
      8. Downtown east level 2, Mr Chicken Rice
      9. 5 star kampong chicken (upper bukit timah opp beauty world)

Other good secrets to check out then feedback:
      1. Seafood Ee-min (Boon Tong Kee , Balestier Br)
      2. 酱油鸡 (Lor 4 ToaPayoh, Blk 90+)
      3. Fried Rice (Opp TMC, Bee Kah)
      4. Chicken rice ball (长城美华美食中心 Chang Cheng Mee Wah Restaurant, Block 111, Toa Payoh Lorong 1., Singapore 310111, or Foch Road kopitiam, or 南香 Sq 2)

There was this one over at the 2nd floor of the hawker centre at Margaret Drive. It was right beside a Shanghai dumpling store. I haven’t been there for years, but it had the best chicken rice I’ve ever eaten.

Wonder if it is still there.

Why best? What is the good part about it?

There's one opposite East Shore Hospital. It's the coffee shop at the road junction. It's cheap and good and sold out by 1230pm. DS2 prefers this stall to five stars.

The white chicken was superb - smooth, tender, fragrant. It was prepared in a way I've never seen before... yum.

Noted and will patronise when I am in that area. They sell the white 白斩鸡 type?
Actually I cannot remember which stall sells the kampong chicken, I ate before but forgot. I prefer the kampong chicken type.
