Pearlyn had $65. This amount of money was enough to buy 4 bars of chocolate and 3 packets of biscuits. She decided to buy 3 bars of chocolates and 4 packets of biscuits and had $4 left. What was the cost of one packet of biscuit?

You can use MD or form equations to solve the problem.

For MD, you will be able to see that,

4C + 3B = 65 or
(1C) + 3C + 3B = 65

Now, remove 1C and add (1B + $4 left), so

1C = 1B + $4

Then

4B + 16 + 3B = 65
7B = 49
B =$7

1. Classes 5A and 5B have the same number of pupils. The ratio of the number of boys in 5A to the number of boys in 5B is 2:3. The ratio of the number of girls in 5A to the number of girls in 5B is 7:4.

a) Find the ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls in 5A.
b) If there are 15 fewer girls than boys in 5B, how many pupils are there in 5B?
