Have to agree. Better to build their resilience when younger.
Revision and drilling are necessary for any major exams. But 'horrendous drilling' could be counter productive and would not produce the optimal results. Worse, it may kill the child's interest in learning. PSLE score itself is not that important other than Sec school admission, but strong foundation, good learning attitude and study habits are important and it is better to start young rather than waiting till O Level or A Level.janet_lee88:
The drilling just to sit for this high stakes exam at 12 years old is silly...when kids go to secondary school, PSLE results is history. Employers ask for O level results or A level/Poly results.
PSLE is still required bcos of secondary school admission...but I feel that it should not be so tough. The nightmare from last year's horrendous drilling will be unforgettable.
Was at DD's PTM in March. While I had been getting worried about the heavy workload she has (DD's school workload was way heavier than DS's), the form teacher assured us that kids are much stronger than we think. She could even tell us confidently that the kids who went through the heavy drilling under her, all have no problem adapting to Secondary life, which is even more hectic. Shelter them now and they will find it challenging later on. -
i believe in building resilience...what i do not believe in, is getting past year papers done one set after another.
our kids have to learn to be strong because we are living in 'only the fittest one can survive' world and with so many foreigners, kids simply have no choice...and i do agree with what wonderm mentioned 'strong foundation, good learning attitude and study habits are important'. -
Yes. Do past year papers one after another. Then do corrections over and over again and they get it RIGHT every time without fail.

Provided teacher explains mistakes or else same mistake will be made over and over again. This kind of preparation for major exams has never changed
O levels will be doing ten years series and past year papers too. -
Today is the start of SA for DS1. Next week DS2. Luckily DS1 only has 3 papers for sec 1. Phew! Hope he will do ok.
