What was last year 2021 P6 PSLE batch (born 2009) official Cut off point, for Dunman High ?
Last hope is DHS now 😅
Is there any hope for AL 11 for DSA selection? LOL pls spill the truth
is it AL 8 (Distinction) ?
Since your kid's primary school exam score is AL 11,
that is,
3 points away from AL 8.
3 points is not far away.
Being an IP school,
Dunman High will still consider giving out CO. Yes, still got hope !
But,
if is 5 points or more away from the Cut off point, probably DHS may offer Wait-list, instead of offer CO.
No matter how strong, how good your child's talent is -
at the end of the day,
because
Dunman High happen to be an IP school, they will still look at your P5 / P6 school results, make sure that your kid can cope with IP rigor,
before start to offer any CO or Wait-list, to suitable candidates. That is, on condition that your child have the talent that DHS is really looking out for, first. -

Ah ! This is something, which i don't quite understand.
There will be another admission exercise into Y3. It is open to all Y2 students in 2024 (referring to the current year PSLE students) with the following criteria:
Outstanding academic performance in Y1 and 2 school examinations; and Excellent achievement in academic and co-curricular activities. Shortlisted applicants must sit for Admission Tests administered by the school you are applying to. Some schools include an interview as well.
In principle, no doubt, the school offered the child CO, for O-level track in the end, because during the very thorough DSA (tests + interview) conducted, the school management overall feel that the child is better off, studying O-level instead of IB.
However, if the child's actual PSLE results released proved that she does qualify for IB or A-level IP track after all, why must the child be denied or deprived the chance of starting IB or IP from Sec 1, for next 2 years ? Why must wait until end of Sec 2, then come and consider let her be transfered, into IP track ?
The fact that, her actual PSLE results qualify her for IP, means what?
Means that the DSA school management has made a mistake, in offering her a CO for the O-level track, instead of offering her a CO for the IB track ?
The DSA school has under-estimated this child's academic ability, in PSLE performance ?
Come on, this is not fair !
If this kid had never accepted the DSA O level track CO, based on PSLE results, she already qualify for IP (be it IB or A-level), and would have entered straight into IB ! So, why waste 2 precious years of her Lower Secondary years life, doing O level curriculum ?
I mean,
if the kid's PSLE results don't qualify for IP, then case closed, we all have nothing to say anymore. Don't qualify means, don't qualify, right ? There is nothing to argue over.
But, in contrast,
if the kid's actual Psle results released does qualify her for IP, why waste time, doing O level for Sec (1 and 2) ? -
On IP vs O Level track (CO or WL), one reason may be that the school doesn’t have any spaces left to offer for IP? I believe IP is supposed to limit DSA intake to about 30%-35% and O Level is limited to 20%.
For those that can switch CO to IP if PSLE results are strong, it may also be dependent on other IP COs being given up. Ie the school needs space to admit more students into IP via DSA. Unfortunately, it is probably not possible for the school (any school) to switch all of its O Level COs to IP COs just because all of the O Level COs obtained PSLE results that would have qualified for IP.
Remember, the CO works both ways (if accepted); the school will give you a spot even if you don’t hit the S1 COP and the student is committed to the school even if he/she has PSLE results that would have qualified for something else (either a different track in the same school or another school). -

Well,I guess parent has to discuss with child the options during application; tick both tracks or just IP track. If choose the former, then got to accept if given 'O' track.

I wonder whether this is intended to prevent parents from gaming the system.
At the point of the DSA application, parents are allowed to select a preference, right? If we picked the O-levels track, we know that the admission standard (COP) is likely lower than IP/IB so there’s a better chance of getting a DSA CO that way. If parents were not bothered either way, then I think the school has the discretion to slot the student into an appropriate program depending on his/her grades/performance. Regardless, the decision was left with the parents so we have to live with it, one way or another.
In short, I think once you are allocated that specific track, it’s hard to argue for a swap (whether upwards to IP/IB or downwards to O). If we could do that, the schools might end up being swamped with these types of requests. -

Yeah! I believe MOE doesn’t want to open a can of worms nor override individual school’s decision.

Not that parents have no options to begin with. -
Hi fellow parents. My DD received COs for MGS & St Nicholas in Netball. Both for ‘O’ levels. We are in a dilemma on which to choose. Can I get some valuable suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
My DD is not academically strong. Her prelims is around AL14. We live in Ang Mo Kio. I send my DS to school at Clementi in the morning. -

Ask your daughter, come year 5, what does she want to study ?

she want (A-level or IB) ?
Decision making has to come from her. She owns the decision made, after consulting (parents, school Teachers, Principal, etc), for advice.
If at end of Sec 2 streaming, assuming that she does well -
1) if she choose O-level (in St Nick), she can transfer across into IP track (Sec 3 onwards),
come Year 5 (in year 2027),
she will join the affliated A-level (Eunoia Junior College),
where other IP students from
(Catholic High + SCGS) will also join her.
At end of Sec 2,
there are O-level track students, who do transfer across into IP (Sec 3).
Also,
from your house in Ang Mo Kio,
if she go EJC come year 5, is very convenient ! Only 3 bus stop, from Ang Mo Kio mrt station :-
https://gothere.sg/m/directions?from=Ang+Mo+Kio+MRT+Station%2C+2795+Ang+Mo+Kio+Avenue+8%2C+Singapore+569812&uid-from=3fe52ff2-d9bf-40fe-88f1-ba1648cc610a&to=Eunoia+Junior+College%2C+2+Sin+Ming+Place%2C+Singapore+573838&uid-to=f10af35b-7fc2-46a9-9823-58143236f43d
Or
2) if she choose O-level (in MGS),
she can transfer across into IB-track (Sec 3 onwards),
come Year 5 (in year 2027),
she will join the affliated ACSI (IB curriculum), with ACS boys.
3) other factors, to consider :-
a) is your family Catholic ?
If Catholic, choose St Nick
4) give a call, to both schools' VP (Academic ) , ask them-
In Upper Secondary (3 & 4) -
what kind of Talent Development programmes are available or in store inside each school, for students who excel in (English, Maths, Chem, Physics, Bio, humanities) ?
No doubt your daughter have entered the school by Netball DSA, still, when come to O level, your girl still have to explore Academic opportunities available.
Based on the answers given by both VP (Academic), u will have a better idea, which school your girl feel is a better fit for herself. -

Hi and congrats :rahrah: , both schools are good options to have.

Absent a preference for religious denomination and/or SAP environment, I would pick SNGS just for ease of commute each day (or at least back home).
Affiliated COPs are AL14 (SNGS) and AL17 (MGS), which are fairly comparable and similar to your girl's prelim score. Hope others can add more detailed thoughts on the differences between the two schools (unfortunately, I am not in the weeds here).
Good luck and congrats again.
