@Liew-Nga-Wing oh no, u sound very sad with the controlled diet. U mean even stir fry veggies or tofu/meat are not ok also?

Recently i had to prepare diabetic-friendly meals for my mum. Very difficult to think of carb-free alternatives but managed to do it. Substitute with beans/whole grains and lots of crunchy veggies to let her feel full without blood sugar spiking.

Some healthy alternatives that could work for u are Hakka Leicha & Bak Kut Teh (or other soups like ABC soup, nutritious but not oily).

@zac-s-mum For LNW - you don’t have to only limit yourself to steamed and soup dishes. You can make stews with little oil and more veg, or “stir-fry” with stock and sauces but little or no oil. That will make you meals a bit more interesting but still quite healthy.

@zac-s-mum Thank you Zac’s mum. I don’t why I always cannot get in this forum now after the upgrading. Very busy at work and no money for oversea travels. 😧 Finally went for a blood test in July and was told having a very high LDL cholesterol level. Taken the western medication for one month and the LDL cholesterol level fell to 2.55 (below the range 2.6 to 3.3) but having terrible muscle pain, so I refuse to continue the western medication. TCM doctor told me to adjust my diets and life style and stop taking any fried or deep fried food (Trans Fat food). Able to loss 1.5 kg weight already. Now only eat soup or steam food. 😵

You may want to consult your doctor regarding your side effect from taking western medication for your high cholesterol. Maybe your doc will reduce your dosage, to ease your side effect? You will then still have some form of medication control

@zac-s-mum Thank you Zac’s mum and Slmkhoo, the problem is I don’t have time to cook at home and I an DH always have to ear outside. The food stall or restaurant will not waste the oil left over after deep fried food and will use this “re-used” oil to fry vegetable and meat. According to my TCM doctor, this kind of “re-used” oil is the main cause of LDL cholesterol and therefore I have to take soup or steam food in order to min intake of this cooking oil. Actually I still eat meat, egg and vege… but only change the way of cooking.

I am not really sad…last time, I tried all my best also could not loss more than 0.5 kg weight but now already loss 1.5 kg and no more skin and hives and rash problem.

@bbbay No point to talk to western doctors, they only ask us to continue the medicine for the rest of our life. This medicine actually affect our liver function. Once your liver is damage, it cannot de-tox, many health problems will come out. 中医讲调养,西医讲吃药. Since I have already slim down 1.5 kg (actually I am not a fat or overweight person before) and I believe some “fat” in my blood vessel is already disappeared,

I think it does not work that way.

I used to exercise intensely daily , eat very healthily too- almost zero oil. Lift weight. I was fit. Yet I have high cholesterol. It’s can be due to genetics. My cholesterol is now under control with medication.

We have lots of misconceptions about what is healthy. Some athletes have heart condition despite a healthy routine. Advice is go for test regularly to be sure

The fastest and most effective way to bring down high LDL is to start taking statins like Lipitor. Not everyone on med will have liver damage. If worried, suffice to take regular liver enzymes test to monitor. For info, TCM medication like 灵芝or 麻黄 also has an adverse effect on the liver.

As high cholesterol increases risks like heart attack and stroke, even a minor stroke might have to trouble our spouses to take care of us. So it’s very important to manage our 三高.

Diet wise, limit fatty meat / butter consumption. Even if one uses healthy oil for cooking, one may still get high cholesterol. Exercise at least 3 times a week (Zumba, K-pop dance, Pilates) and try to clock 10K steps every day.

@bbbay LNW - I agree with this. Talk to your doctor about reducing the dosage, or perhaps changing to some other drug? Until you are sure you at a stable stage, it may be good to continue some form of medication, rather than go from high dose to none in one step. Perhaps after a while, with good control of diet and more activity, you can continue to reduce the medication till its zero.

                      @lee_yl very very.

Their CCTV system and facial recognition system are out of the world. They can track down crooks any / every where.

Try going down the streets in a car in China at night - the constant flickering of camera shots really bother me. I keep thinking I am getting a retina detachment!

China’s major cities are very safe in terms of physical safety. Petty theft exists for sure. But generally, it’s pretty drug and violence and homeless free on the streets.

My DH says provinces like 新疆 and 西藏 have even more CCTVs!

During Dec winter period, what if the criminal wears a full jacket just like everyone else on the street, plus have a hoodie that covers the whole face (except his eyes), think CCTV with face recognition doesn’t work well then 😬

DH says if the criminal wears something like specs that give out infrared lights, facial recognition on CCTVs would have trouble capturing and recognizing the face!

How extensive is the PRC facial database we also don’t know, like a guy from a village from another province enters Xi An to commit crimes, cross province crimes not easy to nab… So for me, if I travel alone in China, I will still avoid wondering on the street all alone after midnight!
